A little note from me 🤍

I don't typically address things happening online, and I have always tried to keep this page focused on our markets, our vendors and the incredible small businesses we have had the privilege of working with. But I also recognize that there are a lot of conversations happening right now, and I feel it's important to communicate directly and transparently from me.

About a month and a half ago, I shared probably the most personal and vulnerable post I have ever made publicly. I was incredibly transparent about where I was at, why I had made the very difficult decision to significantly scale back The Mom Market, and why after seven years of building and growing this business, some very big changes needed to happen.

Since then, I have intentionally been relatively quiet online outside of the markets and projects that are continuing.

The reality is that building a business isn't easy. What I am learning is that downsizing one that has operated for seven years, across more than 20 locations, isn't easy either.

There is an enormous amount happening behind the scenes.

With these changes has come a very large volume of transfers, refunds, outstanding payments, account reconciliations and communication. That includes vendors, previous Market Directors, venues and others connected to locations that are being closed or transitioned.

I want to be very clear about something: I am aware of what is outstanding, and I am actively working through it.

It is taking time. There is a significant volume to work through, and I completely understand that waiting is frustrating. I don't dismiss that frustration, and I don't expect anyone to simply stop asking questions or following up.

Communication has taken longer than I would like at times. But there is absolutely no lack of care.

I am one person working through the process of winding down more than 20 locations while simultaneously continuing to operate the portions of TMM that remain. I am working through everything little by little, transaction by transaction, email by email, and I will continue doing so.

At the same time, The Mom Market has not closed entire

It is with reluctance I make this post. But as market season approaches, I feel the need to protect other vendors and small businesses from the same experience that I and many other vendors have had to deal with since June.
I have made over 10 attempts to contact this organization directly, I’ve received one reply to which the owner, Jasmine, responded citing personal issues for the dysfunctional situation in their company.
❗️WE AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN SCAMMED OUT OF HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ❗️For context: our business paid to participate in an event in June called Golden Hour at Canyon -  this event was then canceled, the organization told us that we would have our vendor fees rolled into the next event, Christmas in July. We agreed, as we wanted to give them another chance to put on a successful event, even though we had participated in prior ones that did not deliver the foot traffic nor the advertisements they said they would to create engagement and support their vendors in having a successful market.
The Christmas in July market was then cancelled two days notice. As other vendors know, a massive amount of work goes into prepping for an event, and two days notice for a cancellation definitely threw us off. However, they promised everyone involved refunds. As you can guess, none of us vendors ever received that despite multiple attempts to resolve this amicably. Last week, I sent a final email asking for my vendor feedback as I have now entered into another contract and every dollar matters, as I’m sure many other small businesses can relate to. I was met again with silence, which is why I am making this post here and on multiple platforms as well. I want to protect those that put their time, sweat, and tears into their craft. When you give vendor fees, you do so with trust that the organizers will do right by you. This organization has proven since January they are incapable of delivering what they promise, and will take your funds, promising them back after a cancelled event, with no intention of ever doing that.
Unfortunately, we are far from the only business to be affected by this organization’s choices. Hopefully, this will bring attention to what goes on behind the scenes of their business, and serve as a cautionary tale to other vendors to research and vet organizers before sending money. Whether it is $2, or $200, small businesses put their trust in organizations to put on events, paying to sell, that being said, there is a contract being entered into that unfortunately this organization has no intention of honoring. The Mom Market Collective - do better.
