New section! "Armchair Travel"

Because books provide adventures when you have to stay where you are. (And at $5 each, they're a bit cheaper than a vacation too!)

Entangled Life is now illustrated! Very pleased to be stocking this beautiful version of a truly fascinating book. It's nonfiction that reads like a fantasy novel, and now with photographs too.

We've had so many fascinating donations recently that we've had to make some more sections! Historical Biographies, Canadian literary powerhouses, atlases, encyclopaedias, and even new sections for travel writing and travel guides (with a heavy emphasis on Cuba - I hope you had an amazing trip, kind donor!) - there's a bit of everything!!

My favourite new section has to be the "how to do really cool things". From model ship building to Scandinavian embroidery, it's a very eclectic selection!

Bookstore Plants Public Accountability Post:

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I am hopeless at keeping plants alive. However, that does not stop me having a few in store. So far, only one has died. I am posting them today so that my dear customers can know them by name and keep track of them to hold me responsible for their continued survival.

First up is Beanjamin the 4th, a coffee plant from The Sneezy Ferret

This is Part of Frank. Frank is a cactus we bought in 2021, back when he fitted in one small pot. There are now bits of Frank in the shop, in our Kennedy place, and with POPPINS . Frank is my one success because he thrives on neglect.

An as yet nameless succulent that I'm hoping becomes a cool hair do for this book loving little thing.

Violet the African Violet, gifted by Lili Zwart . It's twin died... (I'm sorry!!) But Brenda Niskala told me how to look after them and now I have a new purple flower.

I consider my plants a testament to misplaced optimism. Please say hello to them next time you're in store.
