It’s about time I reintroduced myself. I’m Sara, and here’s a little Dappled Vintage life update.
Dappled Vintage is my version of a passion project. I started buying secondhand out of necessity in my early-to-mid 20s, when I couldn’t afford new clothes. I lived in rural Nova Scotia, and came across a little store called Frenchy’s for the first time. And wow, I was hooked.
Even after I started earning a decent wage, a few years later, I knew shopping secondhand had grown into something more than a necessity, or just something I enjoyed. It had become a hobby — my own version of a treasure hunt. Bit by bit, my collection of treasures began to grow.
Friends began asking me where I found these treasures, or how to find some themselves. I’d bring them along on my adventures, and help them discover their own love for shopping this way. How finding silks, cottons, linens and cashmere could happen at a fraction of retail prices. I saw how others loved this experience, and wanted a piece of it for themselves, whether it be the treasure hunting or just the found treasure.
Over time, my collection grew beyond what my own small wardrobe could handle. And when a weird little thing called COVID happened, my side hustle was born.
Fast forward to last fall, when I stepped away from my then full-time job. I wondered whether I could make this passion project my main gig. Life got a little busy, and my health got a little complicated, but I slowly worked on reawakening my channel, reimagining this brand, and meeting all of you by hosting pop ups. I felt in my bones that I was onto something.
I had an announcement ready to share with you recently, and it’s not gone the way I’d planned. Instead, life is taking me on a different adventure for now. And it’s one that I’m very excited about, even if it means a Dappled Vintage store is not in the cards just yet.
