Explore entrepreneurship with this unique program with Choices for Youth and Youth Ventures!

Are you looking to work for yourself or turn your ideas into a business? This program will introduce you to brainstorming, business plans, branding, marketing, and more.

Participants will be paid for their time as they learn about starting a business and gain experience launching a new product or service! Youth can also access employment support through Choices for Youth to help address any barriers they may be facing.

Do you want to work in visual arts, but unsure if it’s a good fit for you? This might be the opportunity you’re looking for!

This May, Choices for Youth is offering a paid training program for youth 16-29 who are looking to enter the workforce but are experiencing barriers.

Participants will get an introduction to working in the visual arts industry by training under professional artists and get paid for their time! Skills training will cover topics like capturing creativity, manufacturing merchandise, exploring creative avenues in the community and much, much more. Part of the program will involve designing and painting a mural at the new CFY Social Enterprise Hub!

After successful completion of the training program, participants can apply for employment at one of Choices for Youth’s social enterprises, like The Shop!

Interested participants who are currently receiving Income Support can receive job start supports. Due to funding restrictions people currently receiving EI are not eligible for this program.

Young people in Newfoundland and Labrador can face several barriers when entering the workforce or starting their career. Choices for Youth (CFY) are seeking feedback from the province’s youth about barriers to employment in their area.

Data collected from the survey will help CFY develop supportive training and employment opportunities to address barriers to employment across the province. Choices for Youth currently operates 4 social enterprises and 8 programs in NL and is actively expanding across the province.

The survey is open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador ages 16-29 and takes about 7 minutes to complete. Participants have a 1 in 5 chance to win a $20 Amazon gift cards! (100 prizes total)

Did you know all our youth trainees attend pre-employment training at Choices for Youth? Check out this exciting opportunity for young people to learn about the food service industry!

…then this might be the opportunity for you!

Choices for Youth is offering this 3-week skills-building paid training program for youth under 29 who are experiencing employment barriers and wish to explore opportunities in the food service sector. Skills training will cover topics such as food safety and sanitation, nutrition, budgeting and much, much more. This training program will start in September and will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4pm.

After successful completion of the “Yes, Chef!” program, participants can apply for supportive employment at one of Choices for Youth’s social enterprises. Unfortunately, those currently receiving EI are not eligible for our supportive training program. 

Open Houses are held at our Social Enterprise Hub, 117 Ropewalk Lane and attendance is by appointment only to accommodate social distancing.

Youth Ventures @ CFY

Join our 2021 Youth Ventures Coordinator Alex and learn the basics of starting a business. Skills will include brainstorming, business plans, branding, marketing, and more! Whether you want to work for yourself or start a side hustle, this is the program for you.

Manufacturing & Production

The Shop is a Choices for Youth social enterprise where young people work with textiles and other materials to make products by hand. Join our Shop Supervisor, April for an introduction to sewing, product design, and working with your hands! Youth that complete this program will be able to apply for employment with The Shop.
