I went looking for a simple Nordic-style table lamp for my Amazon Storefront.

Not a smart lamp.
Not a lamp with an app.
Not a lamp that can probably communicate with satellites.

Just a nice lamp.

What followed turned into a surprisingly deep rabbit hole about consumer culture, manufacturing, sustainability, Canadian-made products, and why it’s become so difficult to find things that feel thoughtfully made instead of mass-produced and disposable.

I wrote about that on Substack and I also share a bit about the long-term dream behind everything I’m building with Shop Nordic, SISU & Sage, Picalily Design and by Picalily.

Including the possibility of someday opening a rustic barn-style shop filled with Canadian-made and Nordic-inspired goods.

Growing up, my dad had his own dental practice. He worked 9–5, Monday to Friday. It was steady, predictable… the kind of rhythm that quietly shapes a childhood.

Most weekends, from spring through fall, we were at the cottage.

That’s where some of my favourite memories with my dad live...

We’d go to antique shops and little thrift stores tucked along back roads and small towns. The kind of places that smell faintly of old wood and time. Sometimes he’d go to auctions with a friend and come home with vintage farm equipment or something equally unexpected.

I didn’t realize it then, but that’s where it started.
