Hopping on the 2016 / 2026 trend with this viral throwback. Do you remember this?
I spotted a beautiful leather couch on the side of the street destined for the garbage the next morning, so I dressed in black, armed myself with a utility knife, and stripped the loved leather off to repurpose it.
Honouring the fact that couches aren’t just a piece of furniture, but a gathering place of families, friends, intimate moments, and making memories, I made a beautiful clutch out of the leather and anonymously gifted it to the owner of the couch the next morning.
Through the power of social media my cover was quickly blown, and the story went viral! Not only did it resonate with hundreds of thousands of people on Facebook and Instagram, but I was asked to be on the local 6 o’clock news, a popular CBC morning radio show, and had a news article written about my good deed/thievery.
My business was built on my strong environmental beliefs, building community, upcycling, kindness, the power of a good story, and I’m happy to say that nearly 20 years later nothing has changed. ❤️
