A merry erry band of Fibreistas on a Rowan Tree Travel tour spent a few hours on Wooly Hill yesterday. What a time! Lorna Shades of Ewe Fibreworks wowed them with her sheep breed discussion.

A picnic on Wooly Hill with carrots fresh from the garden. And they all found a few East Coast treasures in the shop to take home.

Thank you . Thank you shadesofewe what a delightful group of humans!!! The Sisterhood is strong

Wool* has just been slapped with an additional 50% tariff going to the USA. It seems to me to be the final nail in the coffin for the idea that exporting all our wool is the best plan (and the best return) for Canadian farmers.

This is the moment to truly reckon with how we’ve handled our national wool clip for the past 30 years and to come up with something better.

Let’s reinvest in our domestic wool processing infrastructure - building jobs and investing in rural economies.

Let’s get innovative and creative with the products we can actually make with Canadian wool to take full advantage of all the benefits of this incredible material that is a renewable resource.

And let’s work with farmers, manufacturers and designers to remind government that Canadian wool is more than just a by-product or some forgotten agricultural commodity.

The first step is to find and support the local Canadian wool already transformed and sold in your own community. (Check out Canadian Wool for the most comprehensive list)

Support those that are already doing the work - and then speak to your MLA, MP your agricultural extension agent and tell them that Canadian wool is important!

*not all forms of wool have been added to the new tariff list. Check my website for a more comprehensive look at this.

This is the last week for in-store shopping at the Sisterhood Shop & Studio for 2026! Come on over and say hi, and remember our online shop will be open all winter for kits, equipment, and beautiful fibre braids.

Autumn Shop Update:
I (Faith) am taking a 4-month time-out to attend Haliburton School of Art & Design. Yahoo!!! Over the years, I have seen so many of you discover, embrace and enjoy the fibre arts through Sisterhood workshops, retreats and events. You have inspired me and given me the courage to take a "Leap of Faith" (pun intended) outside my comfort zone to learn, grow and think about the next chapter in my own personal fibre arts journey.

For that reason, the Sisterhood Shop and Studio in Tatamagouche will close early for the season. The last in-store shopping day for 2026 will be Saturday, August 29th.

The online shop will remain open. Please continue to order your Ashford equipment, your much-loved fibre braids, weaving kits, reeds, shuttles, bobbins, etc. And they’ll be delivered right to your door.

The newsletters and social media posts will continue throughout the Fall. Casey (who has been with the Sisterhood for over 8 years) will be stepping out from behind the curtain to make those happen. Which, in truth, they have been doing for years.

As my hiatus spins along, weaves together, and takes its creative turns – I’ll share news through snippets in the newsletter and social media. Thank you for your inspiration. One last quote for you (and me).

"Know that you can start late, look different, be uncertain and still succeed." - Misty Copeland
