A little fall colour story at Hokkaido Cake. 🍂
For this fall installation, we wanted to explore something a little different from the traditional autumn colour palette.
The inspiration came from pumpkins and fall foliage. We paired burnt orange with willow green and retro lavender to create something playful, unexpected, and still very much autumn.
Hokkaido Cake is a cozy 720 sq. ft. shop, so space is always an important part of our design process. We wanted the balloons to make an impact without taking up valuable seating space or getting in the way of the team’s daily work.
We chose two spots for the installations. The first was above the shelving units displaying the shop’s cake mockups, adding colour to an existing display. The second was above the hallway leading to the washroom, a spot that also happens to be one of the first things customers see when they walk into the shop.
We also played with different types of balloon clusters, mixing sizes and arrangements to create more depth, texture, and visual interest.
Unlike the larger-scale installation we created for Hokkaido Cake’s grand opening in April, we decided to keep things simpler this time. No additional foil balloons, faux flowers, or other decorative elements. Just three colours, different balloon clusters, and a little creativity.
Sometimes, the challenge isn’t figuring out what else to add, but knowing when to stop.
And we think these colours deserve to speak for themselves. 💜
