🚧 Bowness Road Construction Update 🚧

It’s been a challenging few days for our little stretch of Bowness Road.

The road is now completely closed, and we are still without water in this section. Because of that, many of our neighbouring businesses that rely on water have been mandated to close. On top of that, several have also been dealing with flooding caused by the water main break.

The good news? Awaken The Gems is OPEN! 💚

We’re one of the few retailers along this section that is still able to welcome customers, and we’d love to see you. We know getting here may take a little extra effort with the road closure and parking changes, so everyone who visits today will receive 15% OFF their purchase as our way of saying thank you for making the trip.

While you’re thinking about supporting local, please keep our neighbours in mind too. When they’re back on their feet:
✨ Book that haircut at Bar Barista.
🍻 Pick up some off-sales from BrewSmith Brewing.
🍕 Grab dinner from our local pizza shop.
🥢 Visit our wonderful Vietnamese restaurant.

These businesses are an important part of what makes Bowness special, and they’ll need our support when they’re able to reopen.

Happy Sunday, Bowness! ❤️

You may have heard about the water main break and the sinkhole on Bowness Road. It’s been a difficult day for many of the businesses on our side of the street, with several experiencing flooded basements.

Our hearts especially go out to the Self-Realization Fellowship Calgary Meditation Group, who have suffered a complete loss and will unfortunately need to relocate from the building while they rebuild. We’re also thinking of the audio business at the end of the road, which has experienced significant flooding and damage. We truly hope both are able to recover and get back to doing what they do as soon as possible.

The good news is that the businesses along Bowness Road are still open, accessible, and committed to serving our community. While repairs and recovery begin for those affected, the rest of us will continue providing the products, services, and welcoming faces you’ve always counted on.

If you were planning to get out today, we’d love to see you. Every visit, every purchase, and every word of encouragement helps support the local businesses that make Bowness such a special place.

Thanks for spending a couple of minutes with me today. 💙

Now that the excitement of Tour de Bowness has settled, I’ve just been taking a moment to reflect on how grateful I am.

The weather may not have been what everyone hoped for, but it was probably perfect for the racers, and it certainly didn’t stop our amazing community from showing up. I had the chance to meet so many new faces, reconnect with familiar ones, and even wave across the street to my friend Marshall as he walked by. Moments like that remind me why I love being part of Bowness.

Since opening Awaken The Gems, one of the greatest gifts has been getting to know the people who make this community what it is. Your kindness, conversations, support, and encouragement mean more than you know.

I also came across an article ranking Calgary’s best communities to spend time in, and seeing Bowness ranked #4 made me smile. I couldn’t agree more. There’s something special here, and I’m grateful that our little shop gets to be part of it.

☀️ It’s Tour de Bowness Day! 🚴🎉

The streets are coming alive as over 100 local vendors put the finishing touches on their booths, the racers are getting ready, the food trucks are rolling in, and Bowness is gearing up for an incredible day! Come soak up the energy, cheer on the cyclists, enjoy live music, discover amazing local businesses, and spend the day supporting our community. (Mainstreet Bowness)

Tour de Bowness is all about community, and we’d love your help.

We’ll have a donation box set up right in front of Awaken The Gems throughout the event, along with a cooler for food donations.

If you’re cleaning out your closet, please consider bringing those items with you. A pair of shoes that no longer fit your life could make a world of difference to someone who doesn’t have any.

We’re especially grateful for:
• Sealed, non-perishable food items
• Sealed reusable water bottles
• Shoes and boots
• Shorts and pants
• New or gently used socks

Donations will also help stock the Bowness Community Pantry, an accessible food pantry that supports anyone in our community who could use a little extra help.

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. The Calgary Police Service has updated the missing child Alert.

This alert is in effect for the City of Calgary.

Calgary police are extending the alert for missing 11 year old Parker. He was last seen in the northeast community of Thorncliffe on Thursday, July 16 at 12:52 PM. He is 4’11” tall, 90 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes, wearing dark shorts, noise-cancelling headphones and no shirt.

All Calgarians are asked to thoroughly check their property.
If found, do not approach, call 9 1 1.

Awaken Apothecary is beginning to take shape.

Rebecca has handcrafted a beautiful collection of infused herbal oils that will be part of this new line:
• 💜 Lavender – for headaches, muscle tension & restful sleep
• 🌼 Calendula – traditionally used for skin irritation, rashes & scars
• 🌿 Arnica – for sore muscles, joints & sprains
• ☀️ St. John’s Wort – traditionally used for nerve discomfort, sciatica & lingering muscle aches
