ENGLISH CONFUSION ❌

1.ACTUALLY
👉 Means in reality / in fact: (en fait, en réalité)

👉 Used to correct information or give the truth.

EXAMPLES:
-I thought he was American, but he’s actually British.
👉 Je pensais qu’il était Américain, mais en réalité il est Britannique.

-Actually, I don’t like coffee.
👉 En fait, je n’aime pas le café.

⚠️ Common mistake:
❌ Actually ≠ Actuellement

2. CURRENTLY
👉 Means now / at the moment: (actuellement)

👉 Used to talk about the present situation.

EXAMPLES:
-I’m currently working in Kinshasa.
👉 Je travaille actuellement à Kinshasa.

-She is currently studying English.
👉 Elle étudie actuellement l’anglais.

Actually: en réalité / en fait
Currently: actuellement / en ce moment

REMEMBER
💍 Engaged: used for Love / Relationship

💼 Hired: used for Job / Work

A lot of ✅

A lot
A lot is correct English.
Meaning
• Means many or a large amount.
• Can be used with countable and uncountable nouns.
• Common in informal English.

Examples
• I have a lot of work to do.
• She reads a lot.
• There are a lot of students in the class.

👉 In formal writing, use: many, much, a great deal of, numerous.

Alot
❌ Alot is NOT a word in standard English.
It is a spelling mistake.

❌ I have alot of friends.
✅ I have a lot of friends.

ALL TOGETHER vs ALTOGETHER 👇

1. All together (two words)
Part of speech: phrase
Meaning: everyone/everything in one place or at the same time

Examples
• Let’s sit all together.
• The students sang all together.
• We were all together in the hall.

👉 If you can insert “all” + “together physically”, use all together.

2. Altogether (one word)
Part of speech: adverb
Meaning: completely, totally, in general, overall

Examples
• I altogether disagree with you.
• The trip was altogether enjoyable.
• Altogether, the event was a success.
• It’s altogether different from what I expected.

👉 If you can replace it with completely or overall, use altogether.

Easy Memory Trick
• All together = in one group / at the same time
• Altogether = completely / overall

Common Mistakes
❌ We are altogether in the classroom.
✅ We are all together in the classroom.
