Explore the art of Mongolian Contortion with Baaska
Baaska Enkhbaatar is a Mongolian contortionist and hand balancer, now based in France where she teaches and performs. She began her contortion training at the age of six in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and has since built an international career that spans more than a decade with Cirque du Soleil — including featured roles in Kurios Cabinet of Curiosities, James Cameron’s Toruk, Quidam, the Michael Jackson Immortal Tour, and Alegría.
Her work has earned her medals at some of the most prestigious international circus festivals — Wuqiao (China), Saratov (Russia), and Latina (Italy) — and brought her to television stages across the USA, UK, France, Italy, Norway, and Australia.
Mongolia is home to one of the deepest contortion lineages in the world, shaped by generations of training and a tradition of exceptional performers. In this workshop, Baaska Enkhbaatar brings that tradition to Zurich for a focused morning of contortion practice — a rare chance to train directly with a Mongolian contortionist in an intimate studio setting.
We’ll open with a general warm-up and partner-assisted stretching, followed by targeted conditioning to build the strength and mobility the main work asks for.
From there, Baaska will guide you through:
- Chest stand and its variations
- Sideways chest stand
- Crocodile to chest stand
- Elbow stand / contortion handstand (wall support available)
- Cross handstand
- Contortion transitions and combinations
Expect precise cues, generous attention, and plenty of time to work on each shape with Baaska’s eye on you.
Who it’s for: Contortion practitioners and students with an established flexibility practice. To participate safely, you should be:
Comfortable in your splits (even if they aren’t yet flat)
Able to hold a bridge pose
Comfortable getting inverted, with or without wall support
