Lighting for Urban Renewal

At the Yangtze River Delta Roadshow Center in Shanghai, a former industrial site has been transformed into a renewed destination for business, innovation, and public activities.

For Building 8, the original facade was preserved, while Shone Lighting supplied customized luminous wall tiles with a water-ripple texture. During the day, the white tiles create a distinctive contrast with the red brick walls. At night, they become illuminated accents, adding new depth and rhythm to the facade.

A small lighting intervention, but one that gives an old space new vitality and helps reveal its own character and identity.

How Customized Linear Lighting Enhances a Facade

For the Headquarters Economic Zone Phase II in Guangzhou Science City, China, Shone Lighting supplied customized 35 × 39 mm linear lights developed for the project’s facade requirements.

The customized solution offers four key functions:

• Custom color: The housings match the building exterior, making the fixtures less visible during the day.

• Uniform lighting: A special optical design creates smooth, continuous light with no dark gaps and reduced glare.

• Hidden cabling: Power and network cables are concealed inside custom aluminum channels that follow the facade lines.

• Coordinated control: DMX512 enables the lighting across multiple buildings to work together, creating a unified lighting effect. Holiday and energy-saving modes create different atmospheres at different times while reducing energy use and simplifying management.

1,000-Hour 85°C / 85% RH Reliability Test for Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting must remain reliable through heat, humidity, rain, and changing environmental conditions.

As part of our reliability testing, Shone Lighting’s products undergo 85°C / 85% RH high-temperature and high-humidity testing for 1,000 hours, together with water immersion checks to verify waterproof integrity.

Throughout the test, our team conducts regular inspections to confirm normal lighting performance, structural stability, and waterproof integrity.

This testing helps identify potential product weaknesses that may only emerge after prolonged environmental stress, providing technical assurance for long-term resilience in complex outdoor environments.

See those four glowing lines stretching through the center? They look just like the strings of a violin.

That’s exactly the idea behind Nie Er Music Square.

Inspired by the shape of a violin, the square uses lighting as part of its architectural language. A total of 10,000 300 × 300 mm LED Brick Lights were installed throughout the project, with four illuminated lines running through the center to create the visual impression of violin strings after dark.

The continuous light follows the pathways across the square, transforming the original design concept into something visitors can actually see and experience at night.

A great example of how lighting can do more than illuminate a space. It can become part of the design itself.

DMX512 Lighting Across Five Buildings | Architectural Facade Lighting Project

How Can Lighting Connect Five Buildings?

At the Headquarters Economic Zone Phase II in Guangzhou Science City, China, DMX512 control links the lighting across all five buildings, creating a coordinated lighting effect throughout the complex. Holiday and energy-saving modes are also included to create different lighting atmospheres at different times and for different occasions.

By carefully setting the light output, beam angles and colors, the lighting highlights the shape and details of each building. The colors change together across all five buildings, while brightness is adjusted for different areas.

These changes create a clear contrast between light and shadow, helping key architectural features stand out while keeping the overall effect coordinated. The result is a striking nighttime landmark for the Headquarters Economic Zone.

Shone Lighting was honored to continue supporting the Headquarters Economic Zone by working closely with the project partner and supplying the linear lighting products used throughout Phase II.

Located in Guangzhou Science City, China, the Headquarters Economic Zone Phase II uses clean and simple linear light to highlight the modern and elegant character of the architecture. Media facade lighting adds depth and visual rhythm across the development.

Inspired by the smart city concept, the design creates a bright and impressive nighttime environment while giving the development a clear identity after dark.

To bring this design to life, Shone Lighting worked closely with the project partner to develop a suitable product solution. The team focused on uniform light output, concealed installation and the overall lighting effect. Based on these requirements, Shone Lighting’s 35 × 39 mm linear lights were selected for the project.
