🌍 Advancing Global Exchange in Microwave Ablation

From June 6 to 9, 2026, iCure Medical supported three international clinical exchange programs on minimally invasive microwave ablation in Zhejiang, China.

Clinical teams from Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital, Linping District Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine welcomed visiting specialists from India, Nepal and Vietnam for live procedure observation, academic discussion and technical exchange.

The programs covered multiple clinical applications, including:

• Prostate ablation
• Thyroid nodule ablation
• Liver tumor ablation
• Uterine fibroid ablation

During the exchanges, Chinese and international experts discussed access planning, puncture accuracy, real-time energy control, complication prevention, functional preservation and post-procedure quality assessment.

Microwave ablation is a minimally invasive thermal therapy used to destroy tumor tissue with controlled microwave energy. Under ultrasound or CT guidance, a sterile single-use microwave ablation needle is inserted percutaneously into the target lesion.
Once activated, microwave energy causes polar molecules in the tissue to oscillate rapidly, generating heat through molecular friction. The temperature within the tumor rises quickly, creating a precise ablation zone. When the temperature exceeds approximately 60°C, tumor cell proteins denature and coagulate, leading to irreversible cellular necrosis.
After treatment, the necrotic tissue is gradually absorbed and cleared by the body’s immune system, including macrophages and lymphocytes. This completes the process of microwave tumor ablation while helping reduce damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
