What Determines Jaw Crusher Capacity?
When choosing a jaw crusher, capacity is one of the most important factors to consider.
But what determines how many tons a jaw crusher can process per hour?
1. Feed Size
The size of the material entering the crusher directly affects its capacity.
If the feed material is too large, the crusher may work less efficiently and the production rate can decrease.
2. Discharge Opening
The discharge opening controls the size of the crushed material.
A larger discharge opening generally allows higher capacity, while a smaller opening produces finer material but may reduce capacity.
3. Material Hardness
Different materials require different crushing forces.
Hard and abrasive materials such as granite and basalt can reduce production capacity compared with softer materials.
4. Feed Gradation
A well-graded and continuously supplied feed can help the jaw crusher operate more efficiently.
Uneven feeding or long periods without material can reduce the actual output.
5. Jaw Crusher Model
Different jaw crusher models have different feed openings, discharge ranges, motor power, and rated capacities.
For example, a larger jaw crusher can generally handle larger feed sizes and achieve higher production capacity.
6. Operating Conditions
Proper installation, regular maintenance, correct jaw plate adjustment, and stable feeding all affect the actual production rate.
Important: The capacity listed in a technical specification is usually a reference range. Actual output can vary depending on material properties, feed size, discharge setting, feeding method, and operating conditions.
BTMA Tipπ₯³
Before choosing a jaw crusher, don't look at capacity alone.
Consider feed size + required output size + material type + required capacity together.
The right combination helps your crushing plant achieve stable and efficient production.
