Thanks for a fantastic VAF!

Last week, we had the pleasure of once again attending VAF, the annual animation festival in Viborg.

This year, Animationsforbundet WAU supported something we believe to be truly special: the new Cirkeline Award, an honorary award for individuals who have made a significant contribution to Danish animation and helped advance the Danish animation industry as a whole. This year, the award went, most deservedly, to Jannick and Hanne Hastrup.

We also had the pleasure of meeting the students from The Animation Workshop at the "Meet Your Future" event. We spoke about Animationsforbundet WAU - who we are, what we do, and how we can help!

We are now back to our daily routine, full of energy and optimism, and we look forward to continuing our work to improve conditions within the Danish animation industry!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello! It was a pleasure, as always! A huge thank you to VAF and the entire team behind it for putting together such a fantastic event.

In this interview, Magnus Igland Møller and Peter Smith look back on the beginnings of Tumblehead, the Viborg-based animation studio they co-founded after studying together at The Animation Workshop (Official Page).

What began as a desire to make strange, funny and flexible 3D short films slowly became a company shaped by both commercial work and a stubborn commitment to original projects.

With warmth and humor, they describe a collaboration built on shared instincts, overlapping roles and years of creative shorthand. Their process often begins with a doodle, a quirky character or a visual idea rather than a message that needs to be delivered.
From short films and client work to burnout, AI
and the Nordic-Baltic animation scene, the conversation is a candid portrait of two creators who find their deepest motivation not in attention, but in the act of making things come alive.

Cirkelineprisen er stiftet af Viborg Animation Festival i samarbejde med Animationsforbundet WAU (tidligere ANIS), som sponsorerer pengepræmien på 25.000 kr., der følger med prisen.

“Dansk animation har en stærk tradition for at tage børn, kunsten og fortællingen alvorligt. Med Cirkelineprisen vil vi hylde de skabende kræfter bag fortællingerne og styrke den kollektive stolthed over animation som fag.

Det handler både om at anerkende dem, der har banet vejen og om at vise nye generationer, at de træder ind i en stærk kunstnerisk tradition, som er værd at bygge videre på”, siger Claus Darholt, forperson i Animationsforbundet WAU (tidligere ANIS).

En af dansk børnekulturs mest ikoniske figurer lægger nu navn til en ny, årlig hæderspris for dansk animation.
Cirkelineprisen uddeles for første gang under Viborg Animation Festival den 11. september. De første modtagere bliver Cirkelines skabere, Hanne og Jannik Hastrup, som hædres for et livsværk, der har sat varige spor i dansk animation og børnekultur.

Prisen er indstiftet af Viborg Animation Festival i samarbejde med Animationsforbundet WAU (tidligere ANIS), som sponsorerer pengepræmien på 25.000 kr., der medfølger prisen.
