5 mistakes to avoid when choosing your next drum kit

1. Choosing sizes only because they look impressive.
A huge bass drum or very deep toms can look incredible, but think about where and how you actually play.

2. Ignoring tom depth.
A 12×8 and a 12×12 are both 12” toms, but they won’t behave exactly the same. Depth affects response, feel and character.

3. Choosing every drum individually instead of as a complete kit.
Your toms, floor toms and bass drum should work together as one instrument.

4. Forgetting about transport and positioning.
Large drums require more space, bigger cases and sometimes a completely different setup around the kit.

5. Copying another drummer’s configuration without considering your own playing.
The perfect setup for someone else isn’t necessarily the perfect setup for you.

A custom drum kit should be designed around the drummer — not the other way around.
