WE HAVE A WEBSITE! (Ok... in reality it's a website for our Literary Conversation Cards, not the bookshop, but now that we have your attention...) If you've visited our bookshop before, you've probably seen these cards, and we've probably immediately told you "we make them ourselves!" (read in an annoyingly-proud voice). And here's how it started: one night I couldn't sleep. We all know the best ideas come at 3am, and this was no exception. I was thinking about what we could make that would bottle some of the bookshop magic I get to experience so often as a bookseller: those random bits of conversation that (sometimes) start from a book and trail off in unforeseen directions...
I'd been a fan of conversation cards for a while and thought: what if we combined conversation prompts with quotes? From there I went looking for quotes that could get a conversation going, found a very talented designer who immediately understood the hope - that once you held this sturdy box in your hands, it should feel like a small treasure to share with people you love, one that opens up minds and hearts.
So here they are: 49 cards, €29, now in 20+ bookshops around Europe (including what might be the world's most beautiful bookshop, Livraria Lello), and now online too! (My husband worked on our website, for which I am very grateful!)
Every card deck sold helps keep our small bookshop going. And now anyone can get one, even if they can't make it to us in person; makes a lovely gift for the readers and talkers in your life.
