Who Created God?

In the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Spirit. One God, Amen!

'Who Created God?'
This is perhaps one of the most popular questions we here nowadays.
But thinking about this question is actually the question of time.
And it implies that God is inside of time.
Furthermore, if we ask this question,
We have to also ask,
'Who created the person that created God?' and so on and so forth.

However, the question by itself is a fallacy meaning that it's built on a false assumption that God is inside of time.
At least that's not the God we worship in a Christian faith.

Let me put it this way,
If I, per se, create a table or a chair, am I inside that table or chair?
The answer is plain No.
So, we believe that God created this plane of time that we live in.
That's why we have past, present and future.
But for God is above this timeline and not merely affected by it,
God does not grow older.
He has the same yesterday, today and forever.
Our God is unchangeable because he is above time.
He is the Alpha and the Omega.
He is everlasting.
He is the beginning and the end,
that's why St. John in his gospel says the following:
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 all things were made through Him
and without Him nothing was made that was made."
John 1:1-3 (NKJV)

Here 'the beginning' means even before time existed.

So, what brings people to ask this question?
Logically, in our reality, we're born at a point and grow up older and we know of that someday we'll die.
We take this observation and try to apply it to our God.
But it doesn't work that way.

Let it sink in that God is a Creator and we are His creations when it comes to our relationship with God.
Our characteristics' as a being are very different.
So we can not take the behavours or characters of humanity and apply it to God.

Let us have in mind the encouragement of St. John Climacus who in his book the ladder of divine ascent exerts all to push forward, to not despair and he says,
"Ascend, my brothers, ascend eagerly. Let your hearts' resolve be to climb.
Listen to the voice of the one who says: 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of our God,
Who makes our feet to be like the feet of the deer,' Who sets us in the high places, that we may be triumphant on His road."

My beloved, notice how the Lord was revealed to Elijah only in the still small voice.
Scripture says that the Lord is found in the Still Small Voice.
This is the same Elijah, who just in the previous chapter, we read about the great victory God grants him when he single handedly defeated hundreds upon hundreds of the pagan priests and prophets on mount Carmel.
God hids his request and sends down fire infront of eveyone to consume his sacrifice and declare himself God over all people.
How could Elijah forget God's work with him so quickly?
As soon as Jezebel sends to him and says that she's seeking to kill him, as he was the cause of the death of all the false prophets, Elijah goes into despair.
But God who's found in that still small voice saves Elijah's life. He shows him his plan and that he continues to work with him and all of us as well.

How quickly do we forget God's great and mighty hand in our lives.
How He has saved us in the past, has granted us mecy and pulled us out of dark pits.
In our own lives, how quickly we despair and question his presence.
We too like Elijah, we have to calm our hearts, silence the storm within us and seek that small voice.
It is that voice that will direct us and give us peace.

No one ought to claim that this is an easy task. We can only claim that it's always worth the effort!

And so my beloved, we conclude by saying that often the question of, 'Where is God?' is not the right question.
Rather, let us ask,
"What now, Lord?
Where do you wish to lead me?
What am I to learn from this?"
And while it takes faith and strength to ask such questions, the reward of true and personal relationship with God is worth the effort.
