Shama plc, founded in 1981, is Ethiopia’s largest Book publisher and distributor, providing a wide range of Books to schools and the public at large which is aimed at achieving Ethiopia’s development goals. The company’s primary retail operation is its chain of BookWorld Bookstores, providing textbooks, general Books, news

papers, magazines and gift items to Addis Ababa. In addition to operating a chain of Bookshops we also operate newsstands and souvenir shops in the major five star hotels in Addis Ababa. We are also the sole distributor of major magazines like Time, Newsweek, The Economist and many more. Shama plc also has a social vision for the great country of Ethiopia. Part of Shama’s mission is to improve literacy at all levels and to foster a reading culture in the country. In addition to producing high-quality, informative books on Ethiopia, Shama plc will embark on several projects to enhance reading and writing among Ethiopian schoolchildren.
