Professionally appraised Victorian two piece dress. The date range is 1873-1886 (most likely 1873) with later alterations to the bustle. The dress has been completely hand sewn in silk with cotton linings. A beautiful piece of history!

I usually try and obey the rule of three when buying antique furniture (If it has three or more problems, walk away) but this Victorian Classical Revival settee has such a lovely shape and wonderfully aged pea green velvet upholstery I bought it anyway. It's going to take quite a bit of work to set it right but we love it!

This old photograph shows the inside of a "rag town lodging house". Beds cost 35 cents a night or 50 cents for two in a bed. Would love to know where and when it was taken!

Here is the 'before' pic of this mid-century Kandya kitchen unit. I'll post the 'after' once it's painted. We're planning on using it for a display at the Ballater Antique Fair on August 12th.

This image shows Gordon Stables (right) from Aberchirder with his caravan "The Wanderer". He was the first person to order a "gentleman’s caravan" from the Bristol Wagon & Carriage Works, in which he travelled the length of Great Britain in 1885. He documented the journey in his book "The Gentleman Gypsy" which is on my old book wish list. I would love to know what the interior looked like!

Another World War Two post today. These invitations belonged to my Grandfather who was the Camp Doctor to the German PoWs at Featherstone Park during and after the war. Thousands of German officers were sent there for re-education before being released to rebuild post-war Germany. NOT FOR SALE

This card game was produced during the Second World War to promote wartime black-out measures in a light-hearted way. Unfortunately not a complete set but still a great example of British wartime humour. Love Percy's PJs!
