My time in Malawi had been life changing and I am so excited to share products from businesses in Malawi with you. Hopefully, this will give you a taste for the culture, the food and the people here because this country is truly wonderful!

Hi! I’m Shayani and I am here to reintroduce myself because it’s been awhile since I’ve been active here! Most days I’m just a girl who is figuring out life one day at a time like nearly everyone else. Some days, I still feel like the very naive and pretty unprepared 14-year-old who woke up one morning and thought “hey, let’s start a business.” To be fair to that girl, that version of me, it was during lockdown and I was pretty bored and, in all honesty, Shayani the Label was the perfect creative outlet. I needed it. And, in its formative years, Shayani the Label was pretty successful.

But, enough about the past, let’s skip to the here and now. I am 19 now and although I often still feel like the past versions of myself, there are some huge things that have happened in the past few years that have set me apart from all my previous ages. For example, at 16, I travelled to Borneo to volunteer for four weeks. At 17, I taught English in Cambodia for two weeks. At 18, I flew first class for the first time. At 18, I also wrote and started to publish my first novel. At 19, I quit my first full time job, left England behind and started travelling full time. All of these things, these experiences, have led me here to the version of me that I am now and as Shayani the Label always has, it will evolve with me through all the changes.

The thing is, though, the heart of StL hasn't changed at all. The heart of this business is still to give recognition to those who deserve it. Now, however, because I am operating on a larger scale through my travels, I also want StL to operate internationally. Hence, the birth of the idea for a Malawi inspired box. So, what do you think? I am a reader and an absolute lover of literature so maybe this quote speaks to me more than it does to people who aren’t as book-obsessed as me. But, every time I read this, I am hit with first a wave of nostalgia for all the chapters of my life that I have read and closed, all the chapters of other peoples lives that I have been blessed to read pages of and all the chapters of peoples lives that I have had a hand in writing. And then I am hit with a wave of determination to write something even more beautiful and even more successful and even more lovely in the next chapter of my life whilst helping others write the next perfect piece to their life. It spurs me on. It stops me from reading my past over and over and over again and instead live in the present whilst simultaneously looking toward and planning for my future.

It’s nearly springtime and we are definitely stuck in that in-between, freezing cold in the morning but warm in the afternoons weather (at least we are in the south of England!) And it’s getting to the point where it’s hard to know what to wear.

Success is a habit not an end result. Those people that succeed do things consistently. Successful writers, write a line day, consistently. Successful entrepreneurs, stick to a regular posting schedule and market accordingly, consistently. Consistency is the key success. One cannot exist without the other.

Have you ever wondered why StL has follow the way of love written on the note I put in ever order?

If you have then you’ve already ordered from us and we are so grateful for that…and here’s why! Follow the way of love is a bible verse that encompasses Christianity in one phrase but it also encompasses sustainability in one phrase and ecotourism in one phrase and basically that one phrase is the one phrase that applies to every part of my life and everything that I am. And because StL is a reflection of me and my growth it seemed prudent for the motto to reflect that mirror too.

So follow the way of love today. Smile at someone. Pay for someone’s shopping. Text a friend to say that you’re thinking about them. Do something today to spread the love.
