May 17th: This day in 1943, the legendary B-17 Flying Fortress “Memphis Belle” completed its 25th combat mission over Europe, a milestone few bomber crews survived in WWII.

After returning home, the aircraft and crew toured the US to help sell war bonds and boost morale on the home front. Today, Memphis Belle is preserved at the National Museum of the USAF.

Picked up a couple of bargains at the Rural Life Living Museum Village at War today. A mint condition copy of The 1940s House and a set of delicious Berylware tea cups and saucers. 🫖☕️

"There was an incendiary bomb and I went out with my father to where it had fallen, a couple of streets away. I had to go up into the loft with a bucket of water and a stirrup-pump to put it out. When I came back down the stairs, though, they gave way completely and I fell and hurt my leg."

This we remember the sacrifices of 101 year old Burma Star veteran George Durrant and his colleagues. 🎖💂‍♂️

George and his family were at the National Memorial Arboretum last Friday where he delivered a reading alongside his great granddaughter. You can read his story here. 👇
