Here are some air conditioning units for the tops of buildings to add interest and detail to flat roofs. The vent pipes can be arranged in many different way to add variety to a scene. They can be attached to the AC unit, attached in pairs or stood up by them selves. The choice is yours. They will be available at the show at Loughborough Grammar School on the 17th & 18th of August.

Windows are something every building needs and making them three dimensional adds extra detail. These 3D printed window frames can be easily painted before installation giving a cleaner more precise aesthetic. A great tool for scratch building especially in conjunction with a laser cutter however, the buildings seen in the photos have been cut by hand. These will be available at Loughborough Grammar School at the Soar Valley Model Railway Show on the 17th & 18th of August.

More progress on the layout. Having flocked some of the hills, I then added some sheep and a Shepard to one of them. In the town scene I have also added some figures to bring the space to life and tell stories in the town.

Today, I have been relaying some track work as the original was unrealistic and unreliable. Having ripped up the old track with some good old fashioned elbow grease, thanks gorilla glue, I have started to lay the new track on card. Cereal boxes come in useful after being double up for the underlay. I know some use cork to deaden noise and we have tried this in the past however once balested most of the effect is lost. Slow and steady it the key with this one.

Coming up on the 17th & 18th of August is the Soar Valley Model Railway Club annual show at Loughborough Grammar School. I will be there with some of my 3D Printed components and look forward to the day.

Good start to the week with progress coming along on with the home layout. After sitting dormant for a few months now I am finally back at it.

I have been testing out a new design for fencing printed in PLA. The sections of fencing have then been melted together with an old soldering iron to join them together. It is amazing how many miles for this stuff I will need for the layout though.

Other tasks include adding a path along side the track out of black sand and flocking to add vegetation to the scene. I have also started painting the sides of some of the rails to give them a more realistic rust effect, this has been very tedious and slow but definitely worth it. I hope to keep you updated in the coming weeks as progress continues.

New batch of pigs and pigsty’s printed and painted. They look like they have been rolling around in a lot of mud. Just need a field to put them in now. The pigs were printed in eco resin on the Photon M3 and the pigsty were printed on the FDM printer.

Just finished painting these cast iron girder bridges for a modern image layout. They are 160mm in length and are designed to span across a canal. Printed on the Anycubic Photon M3 they were doubled up to give detail on both sides (if I had thought ahead I would have just printed it in one go and then not needed to glue them). For painting they were sprayed black and then hand painted white in the area required. It took a few coats of paint the cover over the black areas especially on the top and bottom. In the final installation they will have a walkway glued in the middle, probably made from cardboard, and supports will be constructed on either end.

OO Gauge chimney pots. Adds a subtle detail to your buildings. Multiple chimney pots can be combined onto one base to increase strength. Resin printed on the Anycubic Photon M3. More styles to come.
