I don’t usually feel the need to address things like this publicly, but after hearing that I’ve been accused of “copying” or stealing ideas from another local business, I want to clear something up once and then move on.
Everything I create for Little Custom Cottage either comes from my own ideas and designs, customer requests, or current trends that are widely available across the market. Trends are exactly that — trends — and there will naturally be businesses offering similar products, styles and ideas.
I have never deliberately copied another local business, and I would never want to take credit for somebody else’s original work.
The business I’ve apparently copied has actually had me blocked for quite some time — for whatever reason 🤷🏽♀️ — so I have no way of seeing or checking what products they are selling, and truthfully, I wouldn’t be going out of my way to check them anyway. I’m far too focused on my own business and what I’m creating.
If every business that sold the same or similar products as another business was automatically branded a “copycat”, there would barely be any businesses left. 🤷🏽♀️ There are countless small businesses selling personalised gifts, clothing, prints, mugs, keyrings, stickers, 3D printed items and everything in between. Similar products existing does not mean somebody has stolen somebody else’s idea.
I’m a small business owner trying to build something for myself and my two boys. I put a huge amount of time, effort and money into my business, and I’m genuinely proud of how far I’ve managed to come. Especially after what has been an incredibly difficult year personally, with my own health and family circumstances, keeping my business going has taken a lot of determination.
I simply don’t have the time or energy for school-playground-style drama over who is “copying” who.
There is room for all of us.
Every business has its own style, personality, customers and audience. I will continue to focus on my own business, my customers, improving what I offer and doing what I enjoy.
I’m proud of Little Custom Cottage, I’m grateful for every single person who supports me, and I won’t allow negativity or accusations to take away from everything I’ve worked hard to build.
