Today is International Pinotage Day. Pinotage was cultivated in South Africa by crossing Pinot Noir and Hermitage (now more commonly known as Cinsault). The result is not what you might expect...have you tried it?

Bodrog Borműhely Furmint Lapis - What's the bottle that makes the least sense in terms of ease of sale and description, but that we keep in the range because we love it? This one...a single vineyard, 100% dry furmint, aged for 6 months in 220L Szerednyei Oak barrels. Clean green apple flavours, pleasing acidity but also a lovely, creamy texture...mmm!

Chozas Carrascal Las Dos Ces Tinto Bobal - one of our favourite w**es at this price point . Bobal is typically a lighter style red, but still with masses of flavour and this one definitely delivers.

Geoff Merril Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 - could not believe how fresh this tasted for a 13 year old w**e. Here the screw cap, as a perfect closure, has retained all the fresh fruit of the w**e. A quick wizz through an aerator and we got a beautifully complex w**e with well integrated oak flavours, delicious!

J Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay - picking a favourite of our J Lohr w**es would be like picking a favourite child, impossible! I do know this one would be in my top 3 though! Beautifully elegant with a big slug of oaky flavours, this is a definite crowd pleaser!

Yamantiev's Kaba Gayda - we love this Bulgarian blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and local grape Rubin. Loads of w**e for £12.99, and was the top seller the last time it featured on one of our in-store tastings ...
