Le Rosé du Courlat - what's MY favourite rosé in the shop you ask? This one, from one of our bordeaux producers. We weren't looking for it, but when we tried a sample bottle we all loved it so much we had to have it!

What's the oldest wine in the shop? This one. Ferratin Pere et Fils Hermitage Les Miaux 1999.

Chateau Kamnik Barrel Fermented Chardonnay - New Wine Wednesday! Someone told us once that in a restaurant winelist or independent wine merchant, you should look for the wine that they must believe in so much because why else would it be there...We won't be able to sell a £40 Chardonnay from North Macedonia we said, and then we brought it in anyway because it's that good.

El Valao Bierzo Mencia - There are some wines in the shop that we love but don't sell much of. This Mencia (grape) wine from the Bierzo region definitely fits into that category. Maybe it's because people are normally looking for big booming wines from Spain, but this medium bodied wine with flavours of red berries, plums, and subtle spices absolutely deserves some love.

Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Klamm Riesling Kabinett 2022 - The German Wine Classification system means that you can tell how dry or sweet the wines are. Here we have a Kabinett wine, so we know that this is in the first level of the non-dry wines, so off-dry. Kabinett wines work beautifully with spicy food, and they are also naturally lower in alcohol so can be enjoyed before, during and after a meal. This single vineyard example from one of the top producers in the area is absolutely delicious.

Chateau Potensac Médoc 2017 - most wine is made to be drunk young, but in Bordeaux we find red wines that develop with age. Flavours soften, textures improve and complexity increases. 2017 wasn't a stellar year in the left bank of Bordeaux, but this Potensac with 9 years of bottle aging has developed beautifully.

Cantina Tollo Colle Cavaliere Trebbiano d'Abruzzo - Trebbiano is made in a number of Italian wine regions, here we have Trebbiano from Abruzzo. In France, the grape is known as Ugni Blanc and is the surprise most planted white / green grape in France, due to it's use in Cognac. Back in Italy, much of the wider planting is for use in their famous balsamic vinegar. Here we have fresh fruit flavours with a dry almond note on the finish. Yum.

Calcada - Vinho Verde as a fizz, a typical Vinho Verde with a slight spritz, and as a beautifully dry rosé. You could spend all day in the supermarket wine aisle and not come up with a better selection than this. Made with the indigenous teinturier grape Vinhão, there's no need for the skins to be added during fermentation and the result is stunning!

Bellingham, The Bernard Series Viognier - The Bernard Series was named after Bernard Podlashuk, maverick winemaker, and visionary co-founder of the Bellingham brand. Never satisfied with the ordinary, he is recognised for his daring vision and unabated drive that helped place South African wine on the map.

This Viognier is beautifully fresh with flavours of peach and white pear, but also with a lovely depth and spice note derived from 7 months aging in oak barrels.
