THE LITTLE GREY CELLS HAVE COME TO BIRKENHEAD! 🕵️♂️
We used the magnificent Hamilton Square as the location for a Speedwear photoshoot in 2015—and now this historic Birkenhead landmark is preparing for a starring role of its own.
The square has been transformed into interwar Britain for Hercule, the forthcoming BBC drama exploring the early cases of Agatha Christie’s legendary detective, Hercule Poirot.
Edward Bluemel takes on the famous moustache and immaculate suit as a younger Poirot, filming among vintage cars, period police officers and extras dressed in 1920s and 1930s fashion.
With Birkenhead Town Hall, completed in 1887, and the magnificent Grade I-listed terraces surrounding it, Hamilton Square provides the perfect period backdrop. Modern signs and equipment will disappear from the finished scenes, allowing its remarkable Victorian architecture to do much of the storytelling.
The six-part series is expected to arrive on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2027.
Liverpool regularly attracts major film and television productions, so it is wonderful to see Birkenhead—and a location we know so well—receiving a starring role of its own.
