Not always an heirloom!
I’m gonna put it out there I love working on pieces that have a sentimental link to the customer but sometimes you just want a piece to look better.
This piece had had a layer of lime wax applied but it hadn’t taken very well as it was a veneer rather than a grained wood.
The only way to get wax off is wire wool and methylated spirits so that took a while.
Then I sanded the old varnish back and the customers came round to the workshop to have a look. I showed them what it would look like with a clear varnish and also a raw varnish which had a slight white pigment in so keeps it as light as you can.
They went for the raw varnish and it’s back to being a neat, straightforward stylish piece.
Now I’m allowed to get on with my next piece which I’m so excited about 🤩! Keep an eye out!
