Goddess Sunday. Persephone, Greek Goddess of spring and the Queen of the Underworld.
Persephone, when on earth was called Kore and the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She was picking flowers one day when she was abducted by Hades and taken to his realm of the dead. Hecate saw the whole thing and told Demeter, who was beside herself with grief at the disappearance of her daughter. She partitioned Zeus for her return, who at first denied her request. Demeter, goddess of the harvest, refused to tend to her duties until the return of Kore. Famine and drought spread through the land, Zeus finally acquiesced and Kore, as Persephone, was able to return to earth. Before she left, she ate some pomegranate seeds, the only thing that grew in Hades' domain. This meant that she was bound to the underworld and had to return. Persephone now brings in the spring, has a few months with Demeter and returns to Hades to rule as his wife for the rest of the year.
