So here it is my latest finished free motion embroidery piece. I draw with my sewing machine so no pens used just thread and fabric
This time it’s the iconic Centrepoint building in London.
Centre Point is a famous 34-storey, 117-metre landmark tower in central London. Built in 1966 and designed by R. Seifert and Partners. A Grade II listed building that has been redeveloped into luxury apartments, retail space, and a public square
Built using precast concrete honeycomb sections made from crushed Portland stone.
One of London’s first true skyscrapers.
Developer Harry Hyams left the building completely empty for nearly a decade after its 1966 completion to wait for a single high-paying corporate tenant.
It stood vacant during a severe London housing crisis, turning it into a hated symbol of property speculation. Occupied briefly by housing protestors in 1974, leading to legal changes regarding empty property taxation. It inspired the naming of the youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, founded in 1969 in a nearby church basement to protest the empty tower.
Received official heritage protection in 1995 for its bold post-war modernist architecture.
