Apricots or Peaches for your garden?

Alongside the many similarities there are several important differences between Apricots and Peaches. With apricots, Bacterial canker and silver leaf are not serious threats, so pruning is safe in late winter or early spring.
The blossom is self fertile so a partner is not required, although the earliness of the flowering season means that hand pollination is recommended.

Pictured is Apricot Tomcot which gives a very heavy crop of large crimson flushed fruits which are ripe for picking from around the middle of July.

It produces a tree that fruits heavily. Approximately 3m when mature, and self fertile.

Get ready for summer pruning. Mainly for fruit trees grown in restricted forms - Espalier, Fan and Cordon.

Around mid-August, trim new plant growth to control size, increase sunlight and air into the tree to help fruits develop on some ‘trained’ fruit trees.

With so many plants here, we have a drip irrigation system that connects to each plant. We also move smaller pots into a shady area near some trees.

Pictured is Redcurrant Jonkheer van Tets - This variety starts the Redcurrant picking season. It produces heavy crops and the fruits are rated very highly for flavour. A recommended variety for all gardens.
