Our Accessibility Map team (Connor & Nicola), along with Winterfest volunteers Jane, Anne & Robyn, went along to see the accessible area provided at Brightlingsea Free Music Festival this afternoon. The team at BFMF have invested a great deal of hard work and money to provide a dedicated space for those attendees with mobility access needs, for families with very young children providing a dedicated baby change area, and a lovely bell tent supporting neurodiversity and those just needing a calmer space away from the crowds. It was lovely to see the space being used, and absolutely prioritised by the festival organisers in this way.
One of the highlights for me was the joined-up approach to this provision. Sensory toys were provided by Winterfest, ear defenders were loaned by St James' Church and soft cushions recycled from the local St Helena's Hospice charity shop, again supporting our local community. The Accessibility Map initiative aims to promote and coordinate more of this joined-up thinking across Brightlingsea, so that helpful resources can be used across different events and help keep costs down for organisations. Thank you BFMF for taking this on board and helping us develop our Accessibility Map vision and project even more this summer.
