Freda Lilly - Designer of Pattern Hannah 🎨 Freda Lilly | 100% Human. 0% Artificial. | Hand-drawn surface pattern design | Licensing available | fredalilly.com Hello lovely, I’m Freda Lilly.

Artist, Illustrator and quiet emotional world builder. My work lives somewhere between pattern, memory and feeling. I use colour and drawing as a way to slow things down and make sense of the world when it feels too loud. I came to art through necessity. After years of living with undiagnosed CPTSD, drawing became a calm place i could return to again and again. What began as a private way to cope

slowly grew into something i could share. Today my work moves across illustration, pattern and storytelling. Each piece is made gently and with intention. I think of it less as decoration and more as atmosphere. Something to live with rather than simply look at. Freda Lilly is a soft space for sensitive people. For thoughtful interiors. For anyone who feels deeply and wants to feel at home in what surrounds them. If something here resonates with you, i’m really glad you found it.

The votes are in for the Herbarium Botanicals challenge and 75 of you picked my design.

I know that sounds like a small number until you have sat there refreshing the page. Seventy five people took the time to look properly, click, and choose the one I drew. That is not nothing. That is a whole room full of people.

Thank you to every single one of you. It genuinely makes the next one easier to start.

Meadow Sweet is my first ever mural, and I nearly didn't put it up at all.

I've never had the self belief to try a full wall scene before, repeat pattern always felt safer, more contained. But it's Leo season, and I'm leaning into being bold. Last week an illustration, this week a mural.

The palette took four attempts to settle on, chocolate kept sneaking into my colour choices, which anyone who's a woman in her forties will understand completely. Published it anyway.

Happy birthday to my daughter today. 🎂

Garden Gossip felt like the right design to mark it with, it came straight out of our shared love of period drama, all those evenings on the sofa gasping at plot twists together.

Secrets passed over teacups, a bit of scandal folded into the florals. Made with her in mind.

Happy Sons and Daughters Day to the people who quietly teach us the most.

I drew this lion for my daughter. Her strength this year has been something to witness, and if I'm honest, something I've leaned on more than she probably realises.

She's about to become a mother herself, and I already know exactly what kind of mother she'll be. Fierce. Warm. Completely unshakeable when it counts.

Every garden I've ever loved had a stick that was secretly a wand.

Garden Princess started as a memory: daisy chains that felt like real crowns, a flowerbed stick that felt like real magic, and the total certainty as a kid that the garden was listening.

This week we're spotlighting it on Patterned

New on Substack this Sunday: Humble Pie.

Some of you know the sea used to be mine without asking. Cancun is where that changed, and where El Pez Perdido came from instead.

A personal essay on mental health and creative process, part of Drawn from Memory. Not a self pity piece, it's about what showed up once I stopped grieving what wasn't there anymore.

Being humbled isn't the universe punishing you. It's the universe saying "not yet, but keep going."

I used to hear that sting and think it meant stop. Now I think it means adjust, breathe, try again with softer hands.

Cancun cracked something open in me creatively that I'm still unpacking. Not because everything went to plan, but because some of the best ideas showed up right after I'd let go of needing it to.

I work with intention. I create with heart. And I rest without guilt.

Some patterns are made for quiet corners. Blackout Bloom was never going to be one of them.

This is what happens when Forbidden Florals meets a full blown cocktail lounge, disco balls, pink leopard print, gold mirrors, the works. Rockett St George if this doesn't scream your kind of maximalism, I don't know what does.

I'm sorry, I didn't manage to film myself drawing this one. In my defence, the sun and I are still not on speaking terms, and today it decided screen glare was the hill it wanted to die on.

So instead, here's Fältblommor properly presented, wildflowers, meadow grasses and cabbage white butterflies in warm terracotta, shown across four very different rooms because honestly, it earns the spotlight. Fältblommor means wildflowers in Swedish, which felt right the moment I landed on it.

Now live on Happywall.

When you capture a shared love of period dramas between mother and daughter and accidentally end up creating something that looks like it belongs in a Little-greene Karlštejn campaign.

I am a Bridgerton addict and I am not even slightly ashamed to admit it. Scattered Morals came out of exactly that, hours on the sofa with my daughters, all of us far too invested in who's courting who this season, and somewhere in that shared obsession this ditsy little floral was born, in tones that could have walked straight off their colour chart.

Hand drawn, no shortcuts, no AI.

What's your guilty pleasure period drama? And if you're a fellow designer, drop what you're working on below, I'd love to see it.
