BRFFA HIDDEN PAIRS.
The ever popular BRFFA Hidden pairs will this year be fished on Blagdon on Sunday 4th October.
You can choose your boat partner but you will not know who your team mate is until the results are announced.
Where possible non internationally capped anglers will be paired with an internationally capped angler giving everyone the chance of winning and if you so wish to pick their brains and learn from a top class angler.
There will be a buffet provided at Blagdon lodge after the competition where the results will also be announced.
We will once again have a fantastic prize table thanks to the very generous sponsorship from Airflo Fishing.
Rules will be international with the exception you may roly poly.
Entry is £65pp, this will cover everything for the day.
You can enter via clubmate.
Be quick if you wish to fish this banter filled competition and potentially win a great prize as boats are limited.

🎣 BRFFA Joint Winners at Draycote Water! 🏆

What a fantastic result for Bristol Reservoirs Fly Fishers’ Association in Round 4 of the Association of Major Fly Fishing Clubs (AMFC) Group 1 competition at Draycote Water on 9th July 2026.

After two days of practice in scorching temperatures, the BRFFA team rose to the challenge, securing joint first place with Fish Hawks. Both teams landed 9 fish on what proved to be one of the toughest match days of the season.

The conditions couldn’t have been much harder. In intense heat, many fish simply weren’t feeding. Across the competition there were 15 blanks, while 13 anglers managed just a single fish, underlining just how demanding the day really was.

The story of the weekend, however, belonged to Will Wellman.

With a late team withdrawal the day before the match, 17-year-old Will—an outstanding graduate of the BRFFA Youth Development Fly Fishing Pathway and an England Youth International—answered the call. Planning to drive from Bristol for practice, return home, and then travel back again for match day, his commitment was remarkable. Thanks to a quick collection by the team, local accommodation was arranged, allowing him to focus on the competition.

Will certainly repaid that faith. Fishing a B***y Basher in blistering 103°F (39°C) heat, he landed 5 fish, finishing as Top Rod for the entire match. An incredible performance and one that helped secure BRFFA’s share of first place. A brilliant achievement from a young angler with a very bright future ahead.

Every member of the team deserves enormous credit. Four anglers each added a valuable fish, with only one blank recorded for the team. On such a difficult day, every catch mattered. Despite losing a few fish along the way, the team’s determination, resilience and excellent teamwork made all the difference.

This result has significantly closed the gap at the top of the standings, and with only Grafham and Chew Valley remaining, Tunbridge Wells are now firmly in our sights.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved—an outstanding team performance and another proud day for BRFFA.

🎣 BRFFA Youth Development Pathway Taster Session – Chew Valley Lake 🎣
What a fantastic day we had hosting our latest BRFFA Youth Development Pathway taster session at Chew Valley Lake! Despite the blustery conditions, the sun shone, spirits were high, and everyone had a brilliant time taking their first steps into the exciting world of fly fishing.
The youngsters spent time learning the art of fly casting, developing new skills and building confidence on the water. We also brought back our now-famous “Who Can Put Your Rod, Reel and Line Together?” Sprint Race… and, true to form, Ron Howard’s group crossed the finish line in last place! 🤣
As tradition dictates, coach Ron had to complete his 30-second hula hoop forfeit. Let’s just say… his hip action could do with a bit more practice! 😂
It was fantastic to welcome young people from Devon, Cheddar, and the local Chew Valley area. There is some incredible young talent out there—it simply needs the opportunity and support to flourish.
We hope the BRFFA Youth Development Pathway, with the fantastic support of Bristol Water Fisheries and their amazing team, can continue to provide exactly that: a welcoming place where the next generation of fly fishers can learn, grow, and thrive.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, helped out, and made the day such a success. We can’t wait to see these young anglers back on the water again soon! 🎣☀️
