Sixty years on, Fantastic Voyage remains one of the most inventive science fiction films of the 1960s. Richard Fleischer directs Raquel Welch and a miniaturised crew on a journey through the human body, and its effects work earned an Academy Award.

This is an original year-of-release UK Quad featuring artwork by Tom Beauvais. His bold colours and all-action imagery were used only for the British release, which is a large part of why this design is so sought after by collectors.

It was originally folded as issued and has since been conservation linen-backed. The backing work is of a very high standard, and the poster now presents rolled. It's a personal favourite of mine, and a rare quad from a genuine sci-fi classic.

A footnote for Disney fans: Epcot's former Body Wars ride drew heavily on this film, even though it isn't a Disney production. Fleischer did have a Disney connection, though, having directed the studio's first science fiction feature, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

I've just added a selection of original Czech film posters, and they're some of the most distinctive pieces I stock.

From 1948 to 1989, film distribution in Czechoslovakia was controlled by the state. The key art, photography and taglines that studios supplied for US One Sheets and UK Quads weren't bought in. Licensing them would have meant spending scarce foreign currency, and everything shown in cinemas had to pass state approval anyway.

Instead, the distributor commissioned Czech artists to design each poster from scratch. Many never saw the finished film and worked from a few stills or a short synopsis. With no studio template to follow, they brought in collage, bold typography and surrealism from the wider Czech art scene, and the results often feel closer to fine art than advertising.

These posters were printed in modest runs for domestic cinemas and rarely left the country, so original examples in good condition don't come up often.

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

Dirty Dancing was a low-budget film that nobody expected much from in 1987. It went on to become one of the most loved films of the decade, and it has never really gone away. The soundtrack still fills dance floors, the final lift is still recreated at weddings, and Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey remain one of cinema's great screen pairings.

Part of what makes it last is that it's more than a romance. It's a story about a young woman finding her own voice and a young man realising he's worth more than people think, told through dance.

Quatermass and the Pit (1967). Original country of origin UK Quad.

Roy Ward Baker's supernatural alien invasion thriller is one of Hammer's most respected films, and Tom Chantrell's artwork does it justice. Burning London, glittering spaceships, Martian devils: the detail rewards a close look. It's no surprise the poster earned its place in Marcus Hearn's The Art of Hammer.

This example is from the first year of release. Folded as issued, totally original and unrestored, with strong, vibrant colours. It presents superbly and is investment grade.

Country of origin Hammer paper from this period is genuinely hard to find, and this is one of the best posters the studio produced. It's also a personal favourite of mine.

A small detail from the film worth noting: the dead Martian's compound eye has rectangular pupils rather than round ones, like a goat's. That links the creature to centuries of witchcraft and sorcery imagery and fits the film's blend of science fiction and the occult.
