For today's tip, I think it's important children learn that feelings are not something to be ashamed of 💛

Helping children name emotions, talk about them and feel safe expressing them can give them the tools to notice and manage their emotions as they grow.

Books and stories are often wonderful starting points for those conversations 📚

Today's tip is all about 5-10 mins of connection. It doesn't matter what the book is or even if you finish it all, just 10 mins reading together can create:

💛 Calmness
💬 Conversations
🌿 Reassurance
✨ Confidence
🤭 Laughter

Children often process emotions through stories before they can fully explain their feelings themselves. It can also help prepare them for upcoming events or transitions such as friendships, doctors appointments, starting school, new siblings, trying new things, moving house or loss to name a few.

That's why books can be such powerful tools for wellbeing as well as literacy 🐻

Today's Mental Health Week tip is all about opening up gentle conversations with your little one. Talking about feelings doesn’t have to be complicated 💛

Sometimes simple questions help children open up more naturally than we expect. It can also help if you offer up some feelings about how your day went.

You could try asking these questions while:
📚 reading together
🛏️ at bedtime
🚗 in the car
🍽️ at dinner time

Little moments of connection matter so much.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 💛

Sometimes the smallest moments - reading together before bed, talking about a character’s feelings, sharing a story - can make a big difference.

Over the next week, I’ll be sharing:

Really enjoyed popping up at .uk last month during the Easter holidays! If you haven't been yet, it's a lovely and clean play cafe nestled in Orpington and the staff are super friendly! 🛝☕ My little one loves going and was disappointed he couldn't come along with me this time! 😂

I had fun doing a Story Time reading session with the children, they were so engaged! I opted for two Spring themed, sensory books:
📖 That's not my...lamb 🐑
📖 There There Little Bunny 🐰

I find these touchy feely books appeal to a wide range of ages (babies - Reception) as they LOVE getting involved in feeling the pages or showing their empathy skills by looking after the animals in the There There books! 🥰
