Gosh it's been a long, hot weekend! 🥵

We had a sneaky trip to Allensmore Nurseries yesterday to pick up some new perennials for the field. Chris told me I was allowed to spend money if I promised to plant everything I bought within 24 hours 😁😁😁 So guess what we did today?

To be honest, I have quite a few shrubs and perennials that have been waiting in pots for far too long. The problem? I absolutely cannot stand digging holes in this ground! As you know, most of our flowers are grown in no-dig raised beds, but Chris kindly cleared out our oldest beds the other day and they turned out to be the perfect home for the new 5-litre pots.

Sooo... out came the spade, a lot of determination, and an alarming number of rocks. Swipe to the end to see just how many stones came out of a single hole! 🪨😅

Anyway, I'm now a sweaty mess and an idiot who forgot her suncream, so I've definitely topped up my farmer's tan for the week 🫣 (please do not follow my example here!).

The grass has finally started turning brown over the last week too — you can really see where the chestnut tree has sucked every last drop of moisture from that corner of the field. Please, can we have some proper rain soon? 😭

I'd love to know: are your gardens coping with the heat, or are you also desperately watching the forecast and hoping for rain? And if you've got any tips for digging through Mid Wales rock, I'm all ears! 🌱💚

There's always someone keeping an eye on things out in the flower field... 👀🌿

This little visitor (Google lens reckoned it's a bank vole... although I'm happy to be corrected by anyone who's better at small mammals than I am!) was spotted darting between the flowers this week.

It's a lovely reminder that we're only one small part of this landscape. The flower field isn't just grown for bouquets, it's also home to pollinators, birds, tiny mammals and countless other creatures that were here long before us.

We do our best to work with our natural neighbours, creating a space where wildlife can thrive alongside the flowers we grow. It means sharing the odd stem, leaving a few wild corners, and accepting that nature doesn't always stick to the plan... and I wouldn't have it any other way 💚

The mayhem of the Royal Welsh Show is officially over… 😮‍💨🌿

But if you’re missing a little bit of Mid Wales already, you can still take some home with you 💐

The honesty stand will be freshly stocked and ready for you tomorrow (Saturday), with bunches of seasonal, locally grown flowers all grown right here at Bwthyn Blooms, in the heart of Wales 🌸

So whether you’re heading home after a busy week at the show, or you’re simply passing through, come and pick up a little piece of the Welsh countryside to brighten your weekend 🤍

Well… we only went and built a show garden at the Royal Welsh Show! 🌸🏡

Today marks the first day of the show, and the first ever Flowers from the Farm show garden at the Royal Welsh. And I am very proud to say that this little patch of Wales started life as a scribble on paper and somehow ended up here 😂

The garden is a tiny celebration of the Welsh flower farm, a little market garden bursting with flowers grown in Wales, with a nod to the growers, the land and the joy of growing and sharing British flowers.

There were definitely moments during the build where I wondered if we'd bitten off more than we could chew… but somehow, with a lot of hard work, a lot of plants, and probably far too much coffee, we got there!

Huge thanks to Sara for helping with construction, Alison () for helping with finishing touches and keeping me sane(ish!) and to Becky () and Lowri () for contributing plants & other items as well as being a fantastic support network!

This garden was created for Flowers From The Farm , and I'm so excited that this is just the beginning. Next year, I hope to bring Flowers from the Farm Wales back to the Royal Welsh Show with a full stand, so I'd love to hear from more Welsh flower growers who'd like to get involved and help us make it something really special 🌸

For now though… I'm just going to enjoy the fact that we actually built the thing. 😂

Here's to Welsh-grown flowers, the brilliant people who grow them, and the first of many Royal Welsh adventures. 💚

The honesty stall has been closed again this weekend — partly because the heat has been causing absolute havoc in the field 🥵🌞

But also because I've been up to something rather exciting at the Royal Welsh Showground… and haven't had quite enough time to cut flowers! 👀

If you're heading to the show, keep your eyes peeled around the Horticultural Village… there's something very pretty waiting for you there 👀🌸

And if you're not heading to the show, don't worry, I'll be sharing exactly what I've been up to tomorrow! 🤫

In the meantime, these lovely delphiniums 💙 will be waiting for you on the honesty stand tomorrow (Monday), and I'll be adding lots more lovely flowers throughout the week.

So pop by, pick yourself some locally grown blooms, and keep an eye on here tomorrow for a rather exciting reveal… 👀🌸
