This is what sewing joy looks like 😁

A few days in the studio, meeting people like you who have come away for a few days to finally focus on the projects they have been meaning to get around to.

Maybe you haven’t had enough space for your pattern cutting. Maybe you need help getting through a fiddly bit of the pattern. Or maybe you just needed some time.

Whatever your reasons are, I’d love for you to join me at my July sewing sanctuary to create some sewing joy of your own.

That summer dress? It isn’t just for summer 🫢

Yes it is perfect for the UK heatwaves and holiday days.

But layer it up and it’ll see you through to October without a second thought. Maybe November if you’re brave enough.

A denim jacket thrown over the top. Tights when the temperature drops. A chunky knit and some ankle boots and suddenly you’ve got an outfit that works just as hard in autumn as it did on a warm July evening. That’s the thing about a dress you’ve made yourself - you know exactly how it fits, which means you know exactly how to style it.

There’s something really special about getting to that point. Where you’re reaching for something in your wardrobe and thinking, I made that. Not just in summer when everyone notices the fabric and the print, but in October when you’ve layered it up in a way that feels entirely your own.

In my Sew a Summer Dress Workshop, we’ll work through everything together - fabric, cutting, construction, finishing - so that by the end of the day you’ve got something you’re genuinely proud of and actually want to wear, however the weather turns out. ☀️🌧️

A few spaces still available. If you’ve been thinking about it, now’s a good time 😁 https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/sew-a-summer-dress?start=2026-06-01T00:00&select=2026-06-18T10:00

Wow.

I truly can’t tell you how blown away I have been by the response to Diploma applications opening just a couple of weeks ago.

Already I’ve had lots of calls with people who are eager to get started, and I honestly can’t wait to see what this cohort does with their year 🙌

I will be closing applications very soon because if I’m being honest, I’ve had more than I could have ever predicted! This is not something I expected to need to do, especially since we aren’t even starting until November 🤯 so if you’ve been thinking about it, get your application in before it’s too late: https://theclothcutter.co.uk/pages/diploma

If I had a pound for every time someone told me they’d never attempt jeans… I’d have a very full fabric stash. 🤣

And I get it. Jeans have a reputation. They’re the project that sits in the “maybe one day” pile, the pattern you eye up and put back down, the thing you convince yourself is just a bit too complicated for right now.

But here’s what I’ve seen, over and over again, in my workshop: the people who were most convinced they couldn’t do it are the ones who walk away most proud. Because jeans aren’t just a make. They’re THE make. The one that proves to yourself that you really can do this.

In my Jeans Workshop, I’ll walk you through everything: fitting, cutting, all those little construction details that can feel so intimidating from the outside. We’ll work through it together, step by step, and by the end of the few days you’ll have a pair of jeans made for your body, by your hands.

No more untouchable pairs gathering dust. No more “maybe one day.”

Your jeans, finally 🙌

There’s one space left on the next workshop! If this has been on your list for a while, don’t miss out on it. Click the link to book: https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/make-jeans-that-fit-you?start=2026-07-01T00:00&select=2026-07-29T10:00

By the end of this summer, something could have truly changed...

There's one garment in particular that people always seem to find a bit tricky. Time and time again I see experienced sewists walk into my studio, who find this one thing to be the bane of their lives...

Trousers.

And I do sort of get it - they aren't as straightforward as a skirt or a dress. Fitting across the waist and hips whilst making sure the leg is right can be a pain to work out if you don't even know where to start.

So to help you, I've got a couple of workshops coming up designed to make you a trouser expert. If you're an avid trouser wearer (like me) then these workshops are designed to give you everything you need to make trousers - different skills and embellishments to create trousers that finally fit YOU.

Find out more about each of the workshops and book your place below:

Did you know about this?

In the industry, we call this a 'hump jumper' which I find quite funny 😆

When you're making jeans (or anything in denim, or bulky fabrics in general), your sewing machine might not always cope with that very well. It is best to try and level out your foot before it hits the fabric you're sewing with, to keep everything nice and neat and to avoid any broken needles or thread jams.

Did you know about this trick? Save this to come back to next time you're making a pair of jeans! 👖

And if you'd like more tips like this, my Make Jeans That Fit You Workshop coming up next month is full of them. Find out more at the link (only 2 spaces remaining!) https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/make-jeans-that-fit-you?start=2026-07-01T00:00&select=2026-07-29T10:00

Calling all beginner sewists...

It can be hard to know where to start, can't it? No-one tells you what all of the funny pattern markings mean, or even which pattern to start with. You pick a design you like, and it turns out it involves a multitude of skills you haven't even heard of, let alone know how to execute.

It can be overwhelming. And I want to help with that.

I've created the Sewing Pattern Confidence Masterclass to meet you where you're at when it comes to starting out with sewing patterns. Maybe you have made a few small home projects and taken up some hems, but commercial patterns feel a bit like Mount Everest and you're not sure where to start the climb. I'm here to guide you!

There are a couple of places left for this workshop which is happening next week and I'd love it if you came along! If you've been feeling overwhelmed or would just like a bit of reassurance, I guarantee you will walk away from this class feeling like a weight has been lifted, and you can conquer your dream pattern.

Trust me, you need this...

We've already had a taste of the warm weather this year... have you started to get prepped for the summer yet?

I don't know about you, but the sunny days and 30-degree temperatures really took me by surprise, and I found myself reaching for clothes that, it turns out, just didn't exist in my wardrobe. I needed to get to the sewing machine and make myself a summer dress!

If you're packing for your holidays and feeling the same, I've got a workshop coming up in a few weeks where you can leave with the perfect summer frock that you have made with your own two hands, fitted perfectly to you.

Bring along your own pattern or choose from one of mine, and come down to the studio to make in a safe and supportive environment. No need to bring your own machine - they are all provided (along with tea and cake!)

Sound up your alley? I'd love to see you there! This is going to be a brilliantly fun workshop - get your place booked and join me here in the studio: https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/sew-a-summer-dress?start=2026-06-01T00:00&select=2026-06-18T10:00 😁

Imagine pulling on a pair of trousers on a warm summer morning and thinking: yes. These are the ones.

Not the ones you bought because they were close enough or the ones you keep meaning to alter. A pair you made yourself, in fabric you chose, cut and sewn to fit your body.
That's what the two-day Summer Trousers workshop is all about.

Over two relaxed days in the studio, you'll make a pair of summer trousers from scratch. Comfortable, everyday trousers with an elastic or drawstring waist, gentle shaping through the leg, and optional pockets. The kind of thing you reach for again and again through the warmer months.

You'll work from either the Nell or Portia trouser pattern, or you're welcome to bring your own summer trouser pattern if you have one you've been wanting to try. Both are beautifully wearable designs, relaxed in feel but thoughtfully shaped so they sit well on a real body.

The skills you'll pick up along the way are genuinely useful ones. You'll learn how to lay out and cut fabric with confidence, how to sew cut-away and patch pockets, how to put together a half-elastic waistband, and how to finish hems neatly with a turn-up. These aren't the most technically complex trousers you could ever make, but that's rather the point. You'll come away understanding how trousers are constructed, what makes them fit well, and how to adjust them for your shape, and you'll have a gorgeous finished pair to show for it.

This workshop is open to all levels. If you've used a sewing machine before and want to try garment making, this is a lovely place to start.

Tea, coffee and cake are on me, machines are provided, you just need to bring your fabric and yourself 😁
