It doesn't have to be a T-Shirt.

Something I love about the Clone Your Clothes workshops is the real variety of garments I see coming through the doors. You can tell that they have been well worn, well loved, real staples of everyone's wardrobes - but the part I love the most is when you can see how and why they have fit into someone's life.

I talk so much about making garments that fit you. But I don't just mean that in a 'measurements fitting your body' way. I want you to be able to make clothes that fit your life. Whether that's a pair of trousers that will see you through many summers of kneeling in the garden, or even a clerical bib! What matters is that it is going to work for you.

Do you have a garment you love that has seen better days? Bring it along to the next Clone Your Clothes workshop and give it a new lease of life 😁

I can't believe I'm saying this...
..but we're already into the last third of the year, and that means that I only have a handful of workshop spaces left before Christmas rolls around (am I allowed to mention that yet? πŸŽ„).

This time of year feels so transformative - I always thought September felt like a more natural 'new year' in a way. Maybe it's just a feeling left over from school days, but something about the harvest and the setting in of winter bringing clean slates and new beginnings always feels like a fresh start to me.

And what better way to welcome it in with some learning? There's something for all skill levels - whether you're wanting to learn how to use your overlocker, make a winter coat, or create your own patterns from blocks. A lot of my remaining 2026 workshops have now sold out, but I've listed below the ones that still have some room. I'd love to see you down at the studio!

This one thing will transform your sewing...

Sewing blocks, sometimes called slopers. Have you heard of them? Do you have your own? Do you even know what they are used for?

You might think that blocks are strictly reserved for professional pattern cutters and designers, but that simply couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, having a block of your own that perfectly matches your proportions can open up a whole new world for your wardrobe.

One of my favourite things to teach is creative pattern cutting, a.k.a making your own patterns from scratch. I love it so much because once you learn it, there really are no limits to what you can create. It is the beginning of something incredible for every single person who learns.

And it all starts with a block.

Blocks are so transformative that I've put together a series of workshops designed to help you create and then use your own blocks to bring you into the wonderful world of creative pattern cutting. There are four workshops, designed for different stages of the journey, and by the end you will have your own set of blocks and know how to use them to create garments that fit you and your life perfectly.

Have I got you interested yet? I hope so. Take a look at the workshops below, and leave a comment if you have any questions. I'll be talking about these a lot more over the next couple of weeks and some of them are already sold out, so get your place booked if you're thinking about it!

You don't want to miss this πŸ‘š

I'm giving away the instructions to make my favourite T-Shirt. For free!

There isn't a pattern because it doesn't need one - instead, this tutorial gives you a very gentle introduction to pattern cutting. Using your own body measurements, you'll create the pattern yourself. Not as scary as it sounds, and at the end of it, you'll have a T-Shirt you'll reach for again and again.

Creative pattern cutting is by far my favourite thing to teach because it opens so many doors - so I wanted to introduce it to people in a way that feels safe and easy. And if you enjoy it, maybe you can come along to a workshop, too?

There's never been a better time to do this...

I'm giving away the instructions to make my favourite T-Shirt. For free!

There's no pattern but that's because you create it using your own body measurements. It is a simple introduction to pattern cutting that anyone can do. I promise, it really is that easy.

I have four of these in my wardrobe now. I've been wearing them all summer, and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up making more. You really can't go wrong.

If you're looking for your next me-made garment (or just want to add this one to your list of projects!) you can get yours at the link below.

A day well spent!

The Bianca Coat workshop is always one of my favourite days to teach. Not because it's a long complicated process, but the opposite. It's the kind of workshop where, because the construction is so well thought through, you get to actually enjoy each stage. You're not rushing to catch up. You're not confused about what comes next.

You just sew. Carefully, at a good pace, with time to press each seam and think about what you're doing.

And at the end of the day you have a coat. Something warm, something beautiful, something that will be in your wardrobe for years - that only took you a few hours to do.

That's a good day.

Join us on the next good day by booking your place 😁 https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/the-blanket-coat?start=2026-10-01T00:00&select=2026-10-15T10:00

You spend hours making something, and then it just doesn't fit right...

That's one of the most disheartening things in sewing. You followed the pattern, you did everything correctly, and still something is off. ☹️

And the problem, more often than not, is that the pattern was built around someone else's body. Shop bought clothes and mass produced patterns are standardised, not made to fit your body.

But what if you could make something that fitted you exactly?

Clone Your Clothes is a brilliant introduction to pattern cutting and fitting a garment to your exact measurements. Bring an old garment you love that has seen better days, and we'll use it to create a new pattern you can walk away with, that fits you like a glove.

Let's talk sewing with jersey...

It goes wrong in pretty predictable ways. And once you know why, it stops going wrong.

πŸͺ‘ Stitches that pop
πŸͺ‘ Neckbands stretching out
πŸͺ‘ Wavy hemlines

These things happen for specific reasons, and all of them are fixable once you understand what's causing them.

That's a lot of what the Working with Jersey and Knit Fabrics workshop is about.

I won't just show you the steps you the steps, but explain why those steps matter. Why this needle and not that one, why you stabilise the shoulder seam, why the overlocker and the sewing machine work together rather than separately.

When it clicks, stretch sewing starts feeling like the most logical thing in the world. And you make a T-shirt in the afternoon to prove it.

Join me for the next workshop and take the fear out of stretch sewing: https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/working-with-jersey-knit-fabrics-workshop?start=2026-11-01T00:00&select=2026-11-12T10:00 πŸ‘•

This is what it looks like...

...when a group of people come together over a shared love of sewing 🀍

One of the things that makes the Sewing Sanctuary different from a regular workshop is that everyone is there for a different reason. Some need the extra space to finish a project, some want the extra guidance on hand, some just need the dedicated time. But everyone is united by their love of the craft πŸͺ‘

The Sewing Sanctuary is a non-residential retreat, running for three days in my Cotswolds studio this October. It is a few days designed to give you the time and space to breathe, recharge, and finally make progress on the projects you’ve been dreaming of, whether that’s finishing a few works-in-progress, starting something brand new, or getting to grips with fitting and pattern tweaks you’ve been putting off.

Come and join me on the next one - just a few places left: https://theclothcutter.co.uk/products/sewing-sanctuary-a-non-residential-retreat?start=2026-10-01T00:00&select=2026-10-29T10:00

Are your seam finishes letting down the rest of your sewing?

It's something I see a lot coming through my studio - and not just from beginners either. I've met some pretty experienced sewists who have a less-than-amicable relationship with their overlocker πŸ‘€

If unfinished seams and frayed hems sound familiar to you, I'm here to hold your hands and say - it doesn't have to be like this. You can get professional quality finishes from the machine you've got sitting in an unopened box in your garage. And I promise it is not as scary as everyone makes it out to be.

Yes, it has more threads than your normal sewing machine, and maybe some unfamiliar wheels and k***s too, but it's nothing you can't learn in a day - trust me! Come along to my next Love Your Overlocker workshop and see for yourself 😁
