Next weekend (23/05) it’s Llangynog village hall’s plant and craft fair. We’ll have heritage tomato plants, cucumbers, courgettes, chillies, flowers, fruit and shrubs with us. We’ll also have a very limited supply of achocha plants to buy at £4 each.

The achocha is a South American plant from the cucumber family producing fruits which taste like a mixture of cucumber and green pepper.

Popular recipes include stuffing with cheese or meat and baking, sautéing with onions and tahini, adding to stir-fries, or creating savory sweet-and-sour pickles and jams.

We grew this last year and thought the fruits were tasty so we’re growing it again this year. It needs warm, humid conditions to grow. It can grow quite large.
