Once the glue was dry I sanded the desk top. Then it was onto the skirt. I mitred the corners but didn’t add splines as the desk legs would strengthen them. @ Sutton, London

I recently made a desk for my granddaughter to work on while she’s off school. I ordered planed pine and my first mistake was in assuming it was flat and square. It became apparent when I started gluing up the pieces of the desk top that a couple of boards were twisted. So I machined them flat but this of course reduced the thickness of the top from 15mm to 12mm.

I’m making the footstool out of ash which is the same as the Morris chair and will stain it to match the chair. I’m adding mortises to the legs and I’ve drilled these out with a forstner bit and finished with a chisel. Only 16 to do! @ Sutton, London

A few years ago I built myself a Morris chair which I got professionally upholstered. It has been very comfortable but I missed “putting my feet up”. So I’ve decided to make myself a footstool with a design to compliment the chair. I’ve drawn out plans (old school!) as a guide and I’m ready to go! @ Sutton, London
