Have also been been working on a couple of Cyrus Dac/ Pre amp improvement programmes over the last month or so and have had some very positive results with the Pre dac/ Pre 2 dac and Pre dac QXR's Have managed to remove and reduce a large of the harmonic noise along with a significant reduction in the 50Hz mains noise that affects a lot of Cyrus equipment.
Donor item is a Pre 2 dac 2016 Vintage and in very nice condition and performed 100% as intended. It was totally as it left the factory which was traded in against some more exotic items a couple of months ago.
The first few images are of the stock unit, its basic measurements and the FFT plot from 20-20Khz @ 48Khz standard test parameters.
I performed the updates in stages and logged all of the interstaged differenices. It was intersting to see how the Cyrus equqipment responds to various ideas. A couple of times I did have to go back and rework the 'improvements' as it was more sideways than the forward.
The end results as you can clearly see it is a signifcant reduction is the harmonic noise right across the measured spectrum which has equated into a far more natural, articulate, three dimensional sounds, with greater trailing note decay, improved dyanmics. Also benefitting is the bass depth & texture, with zero loss of speed plus improved spatiality and a low noise floor and that was obtained with no PSXR.
Have no completed this update on three units now plus a QXR version (two of which were clients).
Have also completed an XR Pre Dac and that has an ultra low noise floor as stock, yet it too did gain greater texture/depth and musical insight after the packaged was applied.
Currently working on an second XR I9 will post results in the future chaps
