In some good news, all Sound Directions’ staff are now able to work at home!

Further to the PM’s address last night we felt that now was the time to take this step to protect our staff. We’ve spent time preparing for this and believe that this is the most sustainable way of working until we have further government guidance.

We are lucky that some of us live within walking distance of the office so where we need to manage deliveries, we are able to avoid all public transport so our valued key workers can get to work and maintain good physical distance from other commuters.

We’ve been around a long time and plan to be here for much longer so we’re are open for business and committed to supporting yours.

We’re always happy to talk if you’re feeling the strain of missing face to face meetings – we’ve discovered Microsoft Teams! Stay safe and stay at home.

This is ferrofluid. Incredible right? Ferrofluid has been used for cooling purposes in loudspeaker manufacturing for the past 40 years. Thanks to this, you're able to crank up your stereo for a party without seeing smoke coming out of the speakers!

Stanislas is at the workbench putting together a CrystalVox loudspeaker so that Hanieh can demonstrate it to a potential customer.

They have an issue with speech leaking between meeting rooms and wanted to look at the possibility of switching their existing conference speaker for one more suited to delivering speech frequencies. This way, you'll get excellent call quality without annoying the neighbouring meeting rooms.

Hanieh Motamedian recently gave a presentation on sound masking to the facilities team of a large office.

They were keen to understand how effective sound masking is at reducing the intelligibility of speech through thin partitions and glazed walls. Speech privacy can be of the utmost importance in any environment.

Speaking of the environment, the company has a 'no plastic cups' policy, so Hanieh was delighted to receive this Brew reusable glass cup from them, which she said made her feel like she'd earned Mother Nature points just for using it!

Have you been to the Natural History Museum, London lately?

This magnificent moon exhibit is accompanied by MSE Audio SoundTube speakers playing an immersive soundtrack alternating between sound effects and actual recordings of the Apollo missions. It's free to visit the installation, and definitely worth popping in.

Integrating natural features into functional spaces is a great way to promote wellbeing, particularly in airports where we are likely to feel elevated levels of stress.

The structure of Madrid’s Terminal 4 is simply stunning. The aesthetically pleasing wooden ceiling slats, made out of bamboo, are complemented by a pop of colour from the ceiling support pillars.

At over 1km long, the environment felt relaxing which is impressive; usually you’d expect the reverberation time to feel endless, but there was limited echo. The beautiful design makes it seem almost like a jungle with a canopy of leaves and natural light which brings us a little bit closer to nature.

LEGO is one of those toys we can’t imagine anyone has a bad opinion about (unless you’ve stepped on it).

They’ve now made LEGO braille bricks for people with vision impairment and introduced braille and audio instruction manuals so that LEGO can be used independently.
