Volunteers play an important role at VOCAL in helping us to support carers. We are currently looking for new volunteers for a few different roles. This is a great chance to join a welcoming community and learn new skills!
Each role would require a commitment of around 3 hours per week. This would be at a combination of venues, including online, at our Edinburgh Carers’ Hub or Midlothian Carer Centre, or our Treasure Tree shop in Ocean Terminal.
- Centre volunteers: Providing a friendly welcome for carers visiting or phoning VOCAL, performing basic admin tasks and supporting the smooth running of the carer centre.
- Volunteer facilitators: Supporting the facilitation of learning, peer support and leisure activities.
- Treasure Tree support volunteers: Supporting the sales of second-hand mobility items at our Treasure Tree shop.
- Volunteer counsellors: Providing counselling at VOCAL’s Carers Counselling Service. The VOCAL administrative team will schedule appointments between carers and Volunteer Counsellors. Please note, this role is only for qualified counsellors who have completed a postgraduate diploma, COSCA-validated course or equivalent.
We run a monthly induction session at our Edinburgh Carers' Centre for prospective volunteers, with the next session taking place on Thursday 30 January from 2pm to 4pm. This can help you to better understand what we do at VOCAL and whether a volunteering role would suit you.
