I've been pretty quiet recently with everyones head down working on our projects but I'm super excited to say that Misfit Hobbies is hiring it's first member of staff (other than me) thanks to the Jobstart programme here in Northern Ireland.

This is a programme specifically for people between 16 – 65 years of
age who are receiving a working age benefit here in Northern Ireland.

This is a 6-month funded position that will begin before the end of March where you'll get an insight into how Misfit Hobbies operates but more importantly this is a programme where we help train and equip you and give you the confidence to feel like you can enter the workforce.

Cryptborn has been fully funded in 2 hours!

We’re technically 48 hours into the campaign, that’s how behind I am on posting this, I’ve been so busy responding to messages, thanking folks and of course pushing forward with getting the game ready.

Thank you everyone for your support, it’s been a real journey taking this from a random idea I had in my garage to demo-ing at UKGE twice and now knowing that I’ll be able to get the game into people’s hands.

The Crypt has opened.

After months of design, testing, and sleepless nights, Cryptborn has finally awakened.

You are the Cryptborn; a hero long dead, reawakened in the castle crypt by a malevolent force. The castle above has fallen to darkness. Its halls twist with madness. Its chambers crawl with the corrupted remnants of those who came before you.

Your task is simple: cleanse the castle… or die trying.

Cryptborn is a solo roll-and-write inspired by Darkest Dungeon and the Soulslike genre, a descent through punishing levels of risk, and ruin.

“Cryptborn is a solo roll-and-write dungeon crawler that is inspired by Darkest Dungeon and the souls-like genre.

You awake from your eternal slumber in the crypt of the castle, something or someone has awoken you from death to purge the castle of the dark forces that have befallen it.

In Cryptborn you'll design a dungeon by rolling a D6 and then populate it with encounters. Once that's done you'll run the dungeon and try to survive.

Each dungeon will have a boss but the goal isn't always to kill the biggest, baddest thing in the dungeon but instead to simply survive to get through to the next stage. In this game 'winning' means staying alive.

The crypt stirs…

I’ve been pretty AWOL this past couple of months, hard at work on The Adventurer’s Guide to Alchemy and also prototyping my next project, Cryptborn.

A solo, soulslike, roll-and-write dungeon crawler ⚔️

Some of you have gotten to play this at this year and I’m please to say that I’m still on track to launch on Kickstarter before the end of the year.

Visiting bookshops is a guilt pleasure of mine, which kind of makes sense when I self publish books (and board games). So when there’s a new indie bookstore that opens in my hometown you can bet your bottom dollar I’m there.

This is and I could have genuinely chilled here all day. Equally they had TTRPG zines in stock!

I picked up this really neat adventure journal by which I’m really excited to use.

Check out both of these folks, Fox and Hyde have some really cool projects (GOONS is definitely one I’m checking out next).
