Bookshell Bindery is located in Cornwall, on the South West tip of England and was founded by Zoe and David in 2014. During a year-long traveling adventure through North, Central and South America, Zoe and David were faced with the dilemma of how to travel inconspicuously with expensive iPhones, Kindles and laptops.
“We found ourselves in some pretty dodgy situations, and the only way we could use

our iPhones safely was to disguise them behind a book.”
And so the original idea behind Bookshell was born – to use a book as a shell to protect and disguise digital devices. On their return to the UK, Zoe and David set about turning their ideas into reality. David retrained as a bookbinder while Zoe developed the brand. After extensive prototyping they successfully combined their passion for traveling with the look and feel of old, leather-bound books. The first Bookshell case was born, and they’ve been hand crafting leather cases ever since. Since the original Bookshell concept, the team have since expanded into producing a unique range of other personalised gifts and beautiful stationery items. These include leather journals, keyrings, notebooks, personalised pencils and even bookbinding supplies.

Keyrings, keyrings, everywhere!

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of working on a large bespoke keyring order for a very smart new hotel that has just opened in Falmouth.

Unfortunately, they did not take me up on my quality control suggestion (to personally check the keyrings usability whilst enjoying an overnight stay).

Just your average Monday morning happening here at Bookshell HQ … woke-up, got the kids to school, drank some strong coffee, started work on some notebooks that will be used by 7 OF THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL LEADERS!!! WHAT? Is this really happening??? I did have to pinch myself before I started work today.

We feel so honoured and grateful to be asked to supply our notebooks to the G7 summit which is happening here in Cornwall next month. No doubt there will be some controversy surrounding the event but quite frankly, the biggest issue on my mind is just what will Boris Johnson and Joe Biden be doodling in their notebooks? If I find out I'll let you know, oh, and I'll let you know how the notebooks turn out too! 😊

Happy bank holiday everyone! I hope you’ve all been having a lovely time in the sunshine? I’m hoping to get out at some point but right now I’m working my way through all your fantastic Father’s Day orders that have been coming in.

You are an organised lot! The big day may be 3 weeks away (21 June) but getting a gift sorted early is a really good idea. As you probably know, shipping is taking quite a bit longer than usual atm PLUS we’re only going to the post office once weekly on Mondays.

So if you’d like a father’s day gift to arrive in time we are tentatively putting our last order date as midday on Sunday 14th June for all UK addresses, and for USA/CAN it’s the same day but you’ll need to upgrade to Express Courier.

If you’re stuck for any personalisation ideas just DM me and I’ll send you a whole load of ideas. I’ll try to post some more inspiration throughout the week too (if my kiddies don’t ware me out too much during the day!!).

The process.

Every time we hand emboss a personalised leather keyring we always complete a test print first. Double checking all the details by eye (such as spelling, line-up, depth of impression etc) means there’s a surprisingly long check list of things that can go wrong!

So when we do finally pull down the lever to create the final print, it’s a very satisfying feeling when what is revealed is a crisp, deep impression.

Just a little heads up that we are now only making one trip to the Post Office to ship orders each week. This is to limit our exposure to the C-19 virus, and also PO workers.
Everything will ship on a Monday, so any orders placed after Monday at 12pm won’t ship until the following Monday.
Thank you for supporting our small business, these are very worrying times for everyone and we hope all our lovely customers stay safe and healthy.
