IT’S ARRIVED! 😍🍄

I shared a little sneak peek of this before it had even been posted because I was far too excited to wait… and now it’s actually here!

I met the lovely maker behind Foxglove & Fern at Staunton Harold a couple of weeks ago and asked if she could make me a business card holder.

And just LOOK at it! ❤️

The colours, the glass, those fabulous wonky mushrooms… I absolutely bloody love it.

I’m a huge believer in supporting fellow artists and makers, and having something made especially for me makes it even better.

Now I just need somewhere to go so I can proudly display my business cards in it! 😂❤️

No glass today! 😱 I know, I barely recognise myself either. 😂

Today I’m concentrating on getting my charity blankets finished, washed and ready to go. 🧶❤️

I love making these in between all the glassy stuff — lots of colour, lots of crochet and eventually a lovely pile of blankets ready to go somewhere they’ll be useful.

A different sort of making day at Quirkwonky HQ today. ❤️

I absolutely LOVE being sent photos and videos of workshop pieces once they’re home. ❤️

These fabulous mackerel were made by one of my students at last week’s workshop — and here they are now, in situ and looking absolutely gorgeous. 🐟✨

They look even better with the light shining through them — all that colour and texture really comes to life.

She made them. I just did the kiln bit. 🔥

A few more Quirkwonky mackerel 🐟

I shared some of the fabulous mackerel made at last week’s workshops, and it seems only fair that I give those lovely makers a little credit for these too.

Seeing everybody’s different ideas, colours and interpretations reminded me just how much I love making these little fish — and inspired me to play around with some new ones of my own.

One of my favourite things about teaching workshops is that creativity is never all one way. I might provide the glass and show people what to do, but I quite often come away inspired by them.

So, credit where it’s due — these fish have my workshop makers to thank for putting mackerel firmly back on my making list. ❤️🐟

Update from the Great Shetland Bird Expedition… 🐦😂

Mike is currently on the overnight boat back to the mainland after his epic journey to Shetland.

The final score:

Mike: 0
Bird: 1

Yep. No bird. 🤣 Apparently it had buggered off before he got there.

Meanwhile, back at Quirkwonky HQ, I’ve been considerably more productive — making robins and cutting yet more fish. 🐦🐟

Admittedly, my robin isn’t particularly rare and it’s unlikely to fly away before I’ve finished it, so perhaps I’m cheating slightly.

Poor Mike. 😂

Meanwhile, in the glamorous world behind Quirkwonky Glass…

My husband left home at 4am yesterday to travel all the way to Shetland.

For a bird. 🐦

A particular bird, obviously. You can’t just substitute another bird. Apparently that’s not how birding works. 🙄😂

Anyway, latest update from Shetland this morning…

The bird appears to have buggered off.

So while he’s roaming Shetland looking for a bird that may or may not still be there, I shall be spending the next couple of days playing with glass, having a go with some air-dry clay and crocheting my charity blankets.

And I shall be doing ALL of it entirely guilt-free.

Because suddenly my collection of craft obsessions seems positively restrained. 🤣

As an event organiser for many years I have often felt a lone voice and have been demonised for my stance on copyright items sbdcthings like toy testing but not anymore! Finally event organisers, shelf space sellers and stallholders are starting to take these issues more seriously!

My husband left home at 4am this morning and is currently on a boat on his way to Shetland.

Why?

For a bird. 🐦

One bird.

So I think we can all agree that I shall be pursuing whatever craft-related activities take my fancy over the next couple of days entirely guilt-free. 😂

Quite frankly, anything I do is going to look perfectly reasonable by comparison. 🤣

I wonder what Emma at The Artisan Apiary might say about that 🫣🤔
