I’m not home right now so current supplies are limited. But, the good news is that all my colourways are repeatable and available to order. I’ll be putting my apron on and checking my dye recipe book as soon as I get back!

What’s in a name? Sometimes a perfectly sensible name morphs into something more esoteric. That’s why a number is really useful when ordering and repeating dye recipes. I don’t put names of my yarn labels but I enjoy telling people when they ask - here is Mole and Duck!

And I go back to Blue…
There are so many blues in my recipe book and this latest one is an update of a few old favourites. It is striking on the white yarns - Alder sock yarn, Crab Apple and Hazel laceweight and Ash DK - and beautifully subtle on the oatmeal yarns - Willow 4-ply and Blackthorn DK. It is also available in gorgeous Bluefaced Leicester (and BFL/silk) tops for felting and spinning.

I’ve always found red a challenge but this one was a special request from Whitaker - handloom weaver. David weaves beautiful scarves and I’m really chuffed to supply some of his yarns.
Ash is an alpaca/linen/silk DK which drapes beautifully - perfect for my Two Hank Poncho pattern!

My lovely friend Elina lives on the edge of Ajosjärvi in Finland. She can’t help taking beautiful and inspiring photos. Most of my colourways are inspired by nature and this brand new one is available in three different kinds of laceweight as well as Alder sock yarn, Willow 4-ply and Blackthorn DK.

I found this mole, early in the morning, lying in the short grass. Its presence raised questions and old arguments which required research. Specifically, if it's not grey and it's not brown, what colour is it?
The French have a word for it and it's so good that we use it too. The meaning of the word is: the colour of the average French mole, which is neither grey nor brown. The word is taupe. Translation - mole.
And then, almost as difficult to capture as its inspiration, shifting subtly between one colour and another depending on the light, a lighter version of The Average French Mole.

When life gets turned upside down it's time to look at things from a different angle. The former dyeing studio is home for now and cooking colours currently happens in a cupboard - but we are still here!
