I haven’t done any spinning yet today because I’ve been darning instead and really quite enjoyed myself!
About six months ago I mended my son’s school sweatshirt and it needed fixing again…shamefully, he went to school last week with a hole in his elbow 😳 Here is my fanciest darning mushroom - I’ve got four but have misplaced one.
I thought I’d use a lovely old Swiss thread but it disintegrated (!) luckily I unearthed this Sylko which was a better colour match. My darning supplies live in the bag I knitted over last Christmas - the reason for the crochet insert is to fill the space where I dropped stitches and I deliberately made the seam stitches visible, wabi-sabi style 🥰

The autumn colours blended themselves! The batt is Cheviot, Shetland, Corriedale, Merino, recycled sari silk and angelina. I think it will be a slimline art yarn!

In amongst the cyclamen 💕
I plyed the Romney etc. batts with a mohair bouclé and some fine stands of rose gold lurex, which you can only see close up. This is squishy yarn with lots of subtle colour variation and a few brighter colour pops from the recycled threads and sari silk.

In the studio today I framed some small needle felted pieces and finished spinning a Shetland batt I’d carded up last week. Fine spinning - and this is fine for me! - does not come especially easily but it’s quite meditative 😊
