Armis Smith LARP Craft

Armis Smith LARP Craft Polyurethane foam cold moulded LARP weapons. Modular, customisable and made to order. Developed for the UK market. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

Hi everyone and welcome to Armis Smith LARP craft. Here is a little information about myself and my work to get started. To start with, I am currently doing this part-time as I am a gardener by trade (down in Devon) with the hope of doing this full time some day. My craft started in 2019 when I was making myself a Witcher style costume for my first event at Curios Pastimes and the weapons I had ma

de for myself were based on pretty poor YouTube videos. The work on my own gear lead to a few commissions for friends, which lead to commissions for friends of friends, which grew my passion for the craft. With advice from the wonderful people at Gnosis Studios, I improved my methods and started producing better quality items, however, I wanted more detail and more efficiency in my work, which lead to experimenting with injection/cold moulding. To start with, I was only prototyping with pommels as I wanted to create myself a fancy pommel for my Witcher style swords, and now, after several years testing different types of expanding Polyurethane foams, I am creating every component of a weapon. I have had amazing feedback and support for my craft so far, including the head weapons checker at Curios Pastimes who has been fantastic, and look to break the bias on injection/cold moulded LARP weapons for the future in the UK market as I adore the process and the results one can produce with it. If you would like more information about my weapon construction and general pricing, please see the 'About' section on my website.

Hello,
I hope everyone that attended Curious Pastimes Event 1 had a great event and got home safely. It was great to see both new and familiar faces.
Having caught up on some gardening work last week, I am back to working on commissions this week, and will soon be adding the new hafted weapons to my website to be available for commission. Starting with the english cavalry hammer as the other prototypes need a little tweaking.

I have also added to the sale page of my website constructed swords that I have available to buy. Please contact me via messenger or email if wanting to purchase and I can arrange delivery.

CuPa E1 was the only event I had planned to attend this year due to decorating at home which will make it too difficult to produce stock to attend events, however, I will still be available for commissions, and will still be posting any new developments.

I hope everyone has a great LARP season :)

Completed Items Available for Sale This section contains weapons I have put together to take to events to sell, and will be displaying unsold items here between events that will be available to buy…

Final mace prototype finished in time for CuPa E1 next week ☺️

Studded Morning Star on an octagonal flared haft.

It would be great to be able to do a spikier version, however, I need to discuss this with weapon checkers to establish what would be safe/feasible. This mace head, like my other prototypes, is very soft and squishy and the same would be said of a spikier version, to a point where the spikes are as soft as a ‘stab safe’ weapon, so hopefully it will be a possibility.

Anyways, safe travels to everyone going to events, and let’s hope for this glorious sunshine next week.

Confirmed for trading at CuPa E1 ☺️ here are a couple of photos of swords I will have with me that I have been working on.
There was a 2 month delay on my blade foam so I won’t have quite as much with me as usual, but focusing on making swords at the moment.
I hope everyone is having a lovely bank holiday weekend.

First prototype flanged mace finished ☺️

Like with the prototype bearded axe, I will further refine the design after getting the construction methods checked, as this one feels a little top heavy like the axe. This specific flanged mace head would probably feel better on either a shorter haft, or a longer two handed length haft. All things to work out in the near future.

Finished some new designs for the first prototype mace. Three mace head designs and two haft designs (which would also be compatible with the hammer heads). A Pyramidal mace head, a Studded Morning Star mace head, and a German Flanged mace head, along with a Spiral Hilted Haft and an Flared Octagonal haft.

My plan is to make the mace heads with a really soft foam mix to make them really spongy and have a similar construction to the hammers.

Thinking about making the flanged mace head with the spiral hilted haft for the first prototype :)

Finished the first prototype English Cavalry Hammer ☺️ very pleased with how it turned out.

The hammer is just shy of 70cm long in total, with the haft being 65cm long, 4cm wide and 3.4cm thick. Although the haft is a non striking surface, there is enough padding around the core on the haft for it to be coincidered a striking edge. This was to make sure that if the hammer head missed its target, the haft would be nice and squishy too. The haft does have a firmer foam at the gripping point to make it easier to wield, and could have a leather wrap on it if desired.
The hammer head is made with a very soft mix of the foam and is very squishy, to the point that the beak on the rear (the spike) would be considered stab safe. The top cap (like with my axe) is separate and could potentially have the option of putting a top stab safe spike on it as a customisable component of the hammer, but will need to discuss that with some weapon checkers.

I will probably rework/refine the prototype bearded axe slightly after getting it checked and save that particular design for a two handed axe haft and design something better for use with a single handed haft, as this hammer is much nicer to wield one handed and I want to achieve similar with the axes.

Anyways, a prototype mace is next ☺️
