I have been playing for 18 years and building for the last 2 of them. Being a gear enthusiast combined with the experience of working in a dedicated drum shop for 10 years has lead to me trying many drums from both big and small manufactures. As a result of that I thought to myself one day "I wonder if I can build my own drums that sing like the greats?" ..and here I am. They play a large part in
how your drums sound and more importantly, how they feel to play. Though I do believe that it is really hard to appreciate, or even tell the difference between drum shells if they're tuned poorly. Once you start tuning well and getting the most out of your drums that is when you start to hear and appreciate the quality of the shells. I am currently building drums and having shells made to my specification from various independent craftsmen situated in the UK combining traditional & innovative methods and using nothing but the highest grade materials sourced from the UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Africa. I prefer super thin shells that give you that satisfyingly low, air moving pressure that make drums sing beautifully. I'm not a fan of dead, gaffa taped drums.. there is a time and a place, just not here and now. And these are hand made by me in Edinburgh, Scotland.
