We have a new special arrival!! A Hypostomus luteus or golden sailfin pleco.

Although he can fit in our plant pot at the moment, they grow to 45 cm so need plenty of space. They also go through significant colour changes as they grow. Starting out with black with lovely yellow speckles as seen here, as they grow, they develop a greater mix of yellow and black before finally the black speckles fade and yellow/gold covers the body.

What a beautiful creature!

🌡️Heatwave pond alert!

In this unusually hot weather it’s wise to keep an extra eye on your pond. Warm water holds less oxygen and fish could struggle in prolonged warm periods.

Our top tips:
💧 Monitor oxygen levels if possible
😋Reduce feeding
🌿 Remove any excess algae and debris
⛲ Keep pumps, fountains, and aerators clean and running
🌳 Provide shade where you can
🚿 Top up water carefully to maintain healthy levels

The Clown Angel Fish (and all angels) are a majestic species which require a taller than average aquarium, due to its adult height and long trailing finnage. Substrate should be soft and smooth, to protect the delicate finnage when the fish are swimming in the lower part of tank. A good cover of aquatic plants is essential for these beautiful fish to feel safe.

Angels are sociable and naturally live in groups but should never be housed alongside small tetras as they will eat them. Also, avoid adding tank mates that are likely to nip their fins.
